spark plug change

Hey guys, have a '12 GC Laredo 6 cyl. Had the oil changed today and my local service shop, not a Jeep dealer, recommended a "tune-up". Oh and for 525 bux! Jeep has 49k miles on it. Did a little search and apparently plugs are a pita but $525, gave me some line that the intake manifold had to come off? Plugs are good till 96k no, from what Ive read here.? And are they really that hard to do? Thx Cory

on a Jk the intake hangs over the left bank. so yea if its the same its a PITA. take a look under the hood. I do think they say something to that effect close to 100k. Trouble though will they come out after that long? I will do them my self one day, though maybe the motor dies first? its had a new head on it at 20k. So im a bit jaded.

Jeep by design.

There is a long thread on this indexed in the maintenance/repair sticky thread. They are ~100,000 mile plugs and yes the intake manifold is removed:

There is also a tip in the following thread to remove the dash panel for better access:

coldcase, thx for the link, guess I didn't search properly. This is one of those horror stories you hear about but as an amateur wrench turner you figure is non sense. 20-30 minutes to do one side and 4-5 hours to do the other, absolutely amazing. Talk about a design flaw. Thankfully with just under 50k miles Ive got a way to go yet,,, but I don't look forward to it. Now I know why he wants 500 bux. Thx again, Cory.
