Shifter on my 2015

I don't know about the rest of the world, but I really don't care for the
8spd shifter I have on my new 2015 Limited... Why in the world did they have to make it like they did is beyond me. I don't see the benefit of the push button and short throw to get into gear...I'm a great advocate of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". I also find that the damn tranny whines when you take off unless you use the paddle shifters to **** up into higher gears at least twice. I love the looks, the interior comfort level, the ride, the ease of and short turn radius,..power hatch, so much.. but for the above items I listed. Hope you folks are enjoying your GC's and the summer weather... Would love to hear your opinions. Stay safe.

I wasn't too wild about the fly by wire shifter, but after two years I'm pretty used to it. I guess the feedback hasn't been real positive, because I understand the shifter will change in the next few years to act more like the older shifters.

I had mine a couple months now and still not use to it.
This would be an interesting poll

In general, there have been quite a few comments that mirror yours about the shifter on the MY14-MY15, OP. According to insiders, the MY16 will be getting some form of update/change to the shifter, but no details have been made available yet.

1.5 years and am use to it.

Start off Eco mode ( not S) and it takes care of the whining .

It took me a week or so to get used to it. I'm liking it now. It is not so much an issue of better for me. It is just different and that's ok.

Love it. It is easy to use and honestly refreshing in design and look.

My daughter's new X3 has the same trans. Her shifter does work differently. You just push a button for park no matter what gear it's in.

My first vehicle was a '61 VW bug, with 4 on the floor. It wasn't even synchronized shifting into first gear. You had to come to a complete stop to downshift into 1st. Driving in those days was a full time job. Today's vehicles just about drive themselves. (And soon they will!)

your replies

Thanks for all your replies, overall it seems you all feel as I do about this 8spd transmission Shifter. Nice to know others are experiencing the same issues. But I do like my Jeep. My first car was a 49 Chevy, 3spd on the column (three on a tree)...with a 6cyl under the hood. Friday night called for a buck's worth of gas and tell the guy pumping to "Shake the Hose". But that car cost me $35 at a junk yard and with 4 rethreaded tires with porter walls.(imitation white walls) Oh yeah, I was profiling for sure... Baby shoes on the rear view mirror. And that HUGE Tube radio took forever to warm up and play some Oldies... We've come a long way !

But, that was the beginning of my love affair with cars, Trucks, and Motor Cycles. I'm 68 and still have an affinity for that new car smell and the sound of a Harley or an Indian. I've owned 10 bikes since I was 21. (actually been looking at that new Indian with the Tan Bags)... Wife thinks I'm crazy... lol

I wish you all a great Sunday and an excellent Summer... thanks for all the feedback. "God bless the USA and our Troops" (and the 2nd Amendment)

Will probably be a rotary knob like they use in Rams, Darts and 200's.

Darts don't use it, 200s, 300s, rams, and Durangos do. I agree that the Grand Cherokees shifter will change. But it will either be the knob or the charger/challengers new one.

Since its electronic now, I would like some added functionality, like automatically going to Park when the engine is turned off or the drivers door is opened while the car is running.

I hope they leave it alone. The more I use it, the more I like it.

The same insiders said that was not the case...but didn't give any more details.
