I saw on another thread somewhere that someone mounted a different winch, but it didn't exactly fit and they had to do a bunch of adjustments to get it in there properly. I'm still waiting on mine to get shipped!

Winch Install Help

I would send a PM but your inbox is full........

Well,

After Jackal01 and I have salivated for so long seeing your Jeep with a winch I have decided to get one for my '12. I was wondering if there is anything additional that would make life easier for the install. Additional body panel rivets/fasteners, etc etc. Anything that you discovered you needed, once you were already in the middle of the install.

Also, I was wondering if you looked into alternative locations for the control box? I am not that excited about having it smack dab in the middle of my grill. I am looking at placing it somewhere else if possible. Somewhere up and out of the weather and road grime. I live in South Texas and try to keep the radiator as free as possible for air flow on those 110+ deg days. Jacakl01 and I appreciate any insights you can provide us. We plan on fully documenting the install so he can do it to his Jeep, and we can post a full install thread here on the forum.

Thank you for any information you can give us!

OK........

Purchased the Winch Kit from RRO and an 8k synthetic winch from Smitty.
All things considered, I might get it in there before 4th of July. Work is a little crazy and I have to work a bunch of weekends.
Will post everything to a full write-up thread once it is complete.
Wish me luck!

Looks like the install should happen next weekend. I picked up a smaller hawse and measured the front license plate holder. Looks like it will be within millimeters of fitting behind it. I will have to cut most of the back plastic out, but it will still mount up. I took the solenoid and plug box apart and have found a nifty hiding place for it under the hood. All that is left is to find a good spot to extend the plug-in to for easy-to-use access without opening the hood. Stay tuned!

Thanks BUT the WARN 9.5 is right at the Low end for the weight of the WK2s. The rule is Double the weight of the vehicle
I am looking at the WARN VR10000 that should get it out of Just about anything

Snatch block and a recovery strap, doubles the line pull. Good enough for me.
