Radar Detector/Accessory Install?

Anyone hardwire a radar detector or other accessory on the dashboard of a 2011 GC and have advice on which line to tap off of that turns off with the ignition? I've done installs in my other cars but I can't easily find any wires or pull off panels in the dash on this car. Dealer told me they want 2 hours labor to do it...

I've always done it by hooking into the back of the cig/power outlet. I just buy a 1 to 2 adaptor at walmart for 10 bucks, and cut the cig/power point off and attach the cables to the back of the vehicle cig/power outlet, then just plug your radar detector/accessory into it and hide the cable. It's really easy. I've got my radar detector hardwired into my 99 Grand that way.

Has anyone tried to remove the radio, dashboard panels, etc? I just quickly glanced at it and tried pulling off some of the plastic surrounds but they didn't seem to budge at all? Is there a special order of operations?

Please somebody share this info. I wanted to remove the radio bezel as well.

Can't tell you. I've only looked at the new jeeps, and not sure how to take apart yet. Good luck with the install

Removing MYGIG radio bezel

I will be both the asker and answerer of this thread. I started tinkering after work today and have instructions on removing the bezel and a few pictures (lousy because they were taken with my blackberry).

Note: The bezel around the radio is made of plastic and includes the entire area from the top of the radio all the way down below the climate controls.

1. Wrap a large flathead screwdriver with a cloth or soft material (I used duct tape) to avoid scratching surfaces
2. Start by inserting a screwdriver between the lower part of the bezel and the face of the dashboard below the wood accent. Use the screwdriver and your fingers to pry the bezel off. You will feel a pop when the connector pops out of its socket.
3. There are connectors all the way around the bezel that you must pop out. Just use the screwdriver tip and your fingers to pry it off. Do not use the wood area for leverage as it too is attached through these connectors and is liable to break.
4. The climate controls are integral with the bezel and are connected with quick release wiring harnesses that can easily be pulled off allowing you to place the entire bezel somewhere else where it won't be damaged while you work in the dash.

Taking off the bezel reveals the radio and a large cavity with some other wiring harnesses and equipment. You can also access the back of the 12V outlet (operates ignition on only) so this would be a good place to tap in for a radar detector. The radio is attached with 9/32 hexagonal bolts that you can remove with a socket wrench.

Hope this helps... plan to install mygig lockpick this weekend and will try to take better pictures.

PS... Chrysler has developed some insane technology to make the thinest would veneer you've ever seen and bond it to plastic...looks pretty good from the front though. see last picture.

Great, thanks for posting.

Will radar detectors still work if the Jeep has the Adaptive Cruise Control group since the cruise and blind spot monitiring both have radar devices? The cruise has radar mounted under the grille in the cerner of the air opening and the blind spot monitor has radar mounted in the lower rear corners.
