Rack and pinion

I noticed the rack is leaking on the wife's 15 Altitude, the car is 11 months old with 5000 miles. My concern is letting the dealer take the car apart that far without screwing something up, I am kinda picky about my vehicles. Has anyone had this repair done under warranty??

There have been several reported here, leaky racks seem to be common. The rack replacement is not an easy DIY thing, some needs the cross member dropped, others need the halfshaft moved out of the way.

OP...Have you actually seen fluid leaking ....if so where are you seeing it ?

Or are you noticing that the level in the reservoir has dropped?

Yes I have seen it leaking, driver's side bellow boot is full of fluid. I've added fluid twice. I work on cars for a living so doing the job myself isn't a problem, just not sure i want to buy a $600 rack on a car this new. They would probably never reimburse me for that...

You can try PM member jeepcares here and ask if FAC will reimburse the parts. I would guess not, as they typically need a dealer to diagnose and confirm the problem. But the once the confirm, perhaps FAC will throw you the part over the counter.

Forum sponsor moparonlineparts will sell you one for about $490, MSRP is like $714.
