Oil weight

I have a 2012 GC with a 3.6. The required oil weight is 5w30. But I notice with the 2013 and newer 3.6, in the GC, caravan, 300 etc., that they all require 5w20. Why the change? Fuel economy?

Probably, my 12 JK asks for 5w30 but my 10 WK asks for 5w20 and it has the older 3.7
