No CD player in Grand Cherokee?

Have they taken out the CD as standard in the GJC? And if you have a dealer configure your Jeep can you request it and remove the Nav stuff?

The only way to get a CD player is an option. The option is around $200 and the CD player will be located in your center counsel. If you choose to get it it will take up a large amount of your center console room.

CD player is a separate option at $295 MSRP and as globet says, it does take up most of the room in the center console.

Did you have to request that? Can you request that for the 2014's? I don't want that many electronic gadgets that could fail on me.

My '13 Limited has the 10-speaker, '430-based DVD receiver and nav. system. It definitely plays CDs.

The 2014's did away with the CD player except as an option when they switched to the new Uconnect systems

Hmm so now the decision is 2014 or try a 2013. And since the combined gas mileage doesn't appear to have changed does it matter.

If you like the old model 2013, then get it. Either one is a great vehicle. But the 2014's do have their share of gremlins in them.

2013s also have a hard drive for music, a DVD/CD player in the dash, and a flipper glass, and have a lower MSRP and incentives and more room to negotiate a deal on. Note: 2013 Overland doesn't have power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, but my 2012 does.

Welcome to the 21st century. The CD player has gone the way of the 8-track. I know people resist change, but the new technologies really are good once you get used to them. Instead of a large container of CD's you can fit thousands of songs on an SD card, with album art for the screen, and more. There's a learning curve, just like anything else, but it really does work great.

Well

LP's still sound the best. A well done CD sounds better than a SD. Not sure it matters in any vehicle but on a nice home system SDs are the worst of the 3 formats.

Cd's are actually making a comeback. People are getting tired of the compressed sound of satellite radio and mp3's and going back. I also miss the way album songs set up each other...with interludes etc.

i have little use for the CD player in our Wk2 so if it wasn't there i wouldn't miss it. If we're traveling out of state where we lose signal for local stations we just stream pandora through Bluetooth rather than carry CD's around.

Exactly! The SD is a convenient way to store a lot of music, but it sure doesn't sound as good as a well mastered CD. Don't know how good or bad the system in the '14 is, but I'll sacrifice the console room for a CD player.
