New tranny

Really wanting a new GC Limited but sure do have reservations about this new eight speed tranny. Chrysler doesn't have the best reputation in this area anyway. Can you help me out here?

I got my Limited 4x4 with Nav, Lux pack, tech package and tow package. I've towed my boat through the Mohave desert

Mind me asking the weight of the boat? Been trying to figure out what my 2014 Overland V6 can comfortably pull.

Sorry, accidentally hit send. Anyways the transmission has been fantastic. It exceeded everything good I had heard. Most or all of the issues have been worked out in later builds. I received mine about 3 weeks ago.

The Jeep is fine..... But if you are really worried get a Suburban . Transmissions are great.... The engines throw craps though .

Get a Hemi or a Diesel and you will have little problems over the long haul.

I have a V6 as well. Honestly I don't know the weight and I should. It is a 19' open bow. I'm estimating boat, trailer and gear etc. at about 4000 lbs. I tow in extreme conditions with some steep grades thrown in, so I would not feel comfortable hauling closer to the weight limit of 6,200 unless I had the HEMI or diesel

Owning one, I can't find anything wrong with the transmission. They have had issues but there are also thousands out there that have not and today you can get a lemon of any make or model car or truck.

I agree, Chrysler hasn't always had the best rep for transmissions. But these Jeeps don't really have a "true" Chrysler transmission in them.

The V6 transmission (845RE) is Chrysler built, but based on a ZF Friedrichshafen AG design, out of Germany.
The V8/diesel transmission (8HP70) is designed and built by the same Germany company.

This transmission (or variants of it) has been used since 2008 by various automobiles, including BMW, Audi, Rolls Royce, Bentley, and most recently, Chrysler.

The V6 guys have reported more often about transmission issues than the V8/diesel guys, but there have also been a lot more V6 based GCs sold vs. the V8/diesel units.

Thanks guys. I don't really plan on towing much at all but I will get the package. I think this will do us just fine. I've always been a GM buyer but have had my TJ Wrangler for almost 18 years now. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

The transmission are actually made by the German company ZF.
They are transmission specialists and their transmissions are some of the best on the planet.
You will find their product in many of the finest cars around...including Jeeps!

The V6 transmissions are not, but the V8/diesel units are.

I think I read somewhere that the V-6 trannies are also made by ZF but are a different model.
I took a quick look around the net but couldn't find it...

The V8/diesel units are made by ZF, but the V6 units are built by Chrysler under license from ZF, and are a ZF design. They are different designs.

This is NOT true. The V6 uses a ZF design, but is built by Chrysler.

And this is the issue. I don't ever see threads about issues with V8/Diesel trannys, but the V6 has many(I was one of them that failed within 200 miles of delivery). Hopefully it was just a bad batch and it is sorted now, but who knows? My second one(they replaced the car since it was within days of purchase) has been fine for 5K miles.
