new owner...whoooo

Today, my wife and I have purchases our first jeep together, my fourth so far. We picked up a black on black leather laredo X with a the hemi and 4x4. I test drove the V-6 twice and the V-8 twice, and went with the hemi since it had all the options we wanted...plus...it's a V-8!

Thought I'd stop in and say hello. I'll be around for a while as our next vehicle will be a rubicon umlimited for myself, hopefully within the up coming year. And now for a picture...

Black is Beautiful
I love black but I just couldn't get black this time, we have 2 other black vehicles right now so I went with dark charcoal instead.

We wanted the dark charcoal, but the only dark charcoal the dealer had, in 4x4, was a v-6 with the light grey leather interior. It was a nice vehicle, but just...NOOOO, to the light grey leather.

Aside from that, we got the v-8 for less than the v-6!!

I highly recommend waiting until you can get a 2012 model since they are supposed to have the Pentastar V6. The current V6 in the JKs is fine off-road but vastly underpowered on the highway.

Nice.

Re: the V6 vs V8 decision, how did the V6 stack up to V8? Was it adequate? Or was it overworked?

I have yet to test drive either.

Thanks.

The V-6 was great. I actually wanted it over the V-8 for my wife. I put roughly 50 miles on both the 6 and 8 during test drives and had the 6 reading 19.5mpg, the 8 reading 15.5mpg. I took both jeeps on the same exact route, using the same exact driving style, well as best as I could. The v-6 definetly moves the jeep well, once you get past the 1/4 throttle. To me, it seemed that the 6 is definetly tuned for mileage, as the first 1/4 of throttle is very very....long? I don't know how to say it, so I'll try my best to describe it. In the 8, when you tap the throttle even under 1/4 throttle, the jeep picks up and you can feel the weight transfer in the suspension. In the 6, it doesn't, but once you get past 1/4 throttle, it DOES. It seems the 6's pedal is set up for very finite control of power/mileage below 1/4 throttle, but any time after that, it just gets up and goes...VERY well for a V-6. I have our hemi spending a majority of it's time in eco mode. I'm not a crazy driver anymore and I don't need to get there before anyone else, so I take my time, another reason I looked for a 6. The V-6 felt almost as strong as the 5.3 V-8 in my old avalanche, albiet it didn't have the jumpy throttle the avalanche had.

I think you should test drive both. I was very happy with both of them, but as stated earlier, the 8 had EVERY option we wanted, including it NOT having NAV. It also had the interior color we wanted and the number 2 color choice, plus we got the dealer down around 200 less than the V-6 (26x,4x4,nav,dark charcoal, light grey leather int.)

As for the wife comment above...she hasn't driven it yet She gets nervous driving new vehicles in traffic, so we've been working her up to normal driving by going to open parking lots and driving around our super rural, speed limit 20mph, neighborhood. I can tell you that I like it, a great deal more than my 09 Tundra I traded in. The GC is smoother over bumps, is returning better fuel economy, doesn't have the damned bed shake/wobble, and is more comfortable driving. I do miss the fact that my 09 tundra sat roughly a foot higher than the GC, so I could see over people and objects a little easier.

Any other questions?

"...... including it NOT having NAV........"

congrats on the new Laredo, it looks really sharp. nice combo.

its funny that you said that about the NAV option, I thought I was the only person left who deplores electronic navigation aids. For me, its takes some of the fun out of the driving adventures and I also insisted on my new GC not having NAV.

heywait, I think mine and yours are absolutely identical... even down to the non-Nav option. I, too, find myself unfulfilled when using navigation devices. I'll find it my own damn self, even if I never find it...

Anyway, congrats on the new Jeep. If you like it half as much as I do, you're LOVING it. Great vehicle.
