How good an engine is the V6

I was reading a thread about someone's hemi dying an early and tragic death. One of the posters said that the new V6 has had troubles. Downstream I was thinking about getting a V6 and was wondering how the engine is doing generally.

I don't think you can say either engine has inherent problems, generally there are going to be sporadic issues with any component in any product.

It's a horrible engine. Every single one has issues. Except the one above with apparently 1,800, 000 miles.

Sent from my underground lair.

One of the best V6s out there

Wards picked it one of their top engines.

I have over 16K miles on mine w/o any problems. It took me awhile coming from 30+ years of driving manual trannies to get used to a slushbox and especially the drive by wire. Now I know where the sweet spots are in the loud pedal's travel and I use it to my advantage. I dont find the V6 slow of the line.

Also remember Chrysler had access to Mercedes and AMG R&D when they designed this engine. Just wont be the same in the future when they have access to Alfa and Fiat R&D or even Maserati and Ferrari.

I believe the V6 is superior to anything from Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, Ford, GM, and Audi/VW/Porsche. Only 6 cylinders that are superior and its by just a little are BMw's I6 and Mercedes V6.

You aren't getting it. My first comment was sarcasm. Jesus Christ.

It is absurd to think every single v6 engine has issues. I'm at 22k with no problems.

There are lots of 2011s out there with high mileage on the used market. Seems to be a good indication that most of them made it to around 100k without (major) problems. Also, Jeep's 100k powertrain warranty will take care of any issues you do have before then. Have only put 1k on mine, but bought it used with 13k and no problems so far!

My impression is that it is a stout, well designed motor.

I've only got 12k miles on it, so I can't say for sure, but it doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes and returns 18-26 mpg for us.

Bottom line, I bet about $37k on it being a decent powerplant.

It's excellent: good balance of power and economy, though I don't do any towing.

I run back and forth to the Sierra Nevada mountains (Lake Tahoe) and it does well fully loaded with people and gear: ascending to higher elevations.

Can I ask what mileage do you usually get to Tahoe and back? I am driving 2004 WJ and get 18-19 mpg round trip from South SF bay. Want to upgrade to 2014 and was hoping for 25 mpg on these trips.
