Hey There, I am Jamie I just purchased a 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland v8. During the test drive, we didn't notice this vibration/shake but when we got it home, it was pretty apparent.
Here is the story. There were two different shakes I could identify, one I thought to be a tire balance issue (and was, and was fixed) and the other I thought, well my best guess was suspension. It just felt like a rough ride. And the 2016 I test drove was of course perfect.
Anyway, when they balanced the tires, the mechanic noticed the rear shocks were leaking, one wheel was out of round, as well as one tire (Thanks dealership!). So I had the shocks replaced. It helped some, most definitely, however, the second shake is still there. And now it does feel like it is more in the front. The first shake is completely gone.
At pretty much any speed, aside from say 30 or under, going over small bumps, potholes, irregularities in the road, what have you, there is what I can only describe as a jiggle. It lasts only a second or so, but there are some roads here in CO that have a slight buckle every 10-15 feet or so, and the jiggle is continuous and although it doesn't really intensify, it can shake pretty good. The steering wheel doesnt seem to shake much. But I can def feel it by my feet (not the pedals) and in the seat.
- The mechanic also did a front suspension check (and rear I believe, as a courtesy since he found the shocks) and said that nothing stuck out to him, it all looked solid.
- It has the 20in wheels on it, would that affect it like that? I have heard they give a rougher ride.
I did call the dealer Monday (we bought on Sat.) He apologized and said oh, bring it to Big O tires to get a balance, that is likely what it is, and I'll pay for it. Ok, great I thought. Well I brought it there, they did whatever they did(who knows really) the manager test drove it and said all fixed! No vibration at all. Needless to say I took it to another place because it was worse than before. That mechanic confirmed the tires were still out of balance as well as the other stuff.
Sorry for the long post and rant, lol. I really hope I can get this figured out. I Love this vehicle so much, but the whole jiggle thing is really disconcerting.
I really appreciate anyone's input as I am at a loss. Btw, I don't think this is a death wobble, and I say that because anytime I search that is all I come up with.
