Heated Steering Wheel not working

My heated steering wheel stopped working last week (vehicle is 4 weeks old). Dealer traced to a fault in the wheel and installed an new one. New one worked for 1 week and now same failure mode is back (heat switches on for 1 sec. and turns right back off). So, its going back to the dealer today. Feedback from them is that they have never seen the steering wheel heater fail.

Just curious if anyone else has had theirs fail?

First I've read about it...

My heated steering wheel never had any issues, I'd definitely take it in and have them find the root cause.

I wonder if the problem is in the control module. But then, why would it work for a week after they installed a new wheel? Very puzzling.

Heated steering wheel? Really is that needed?

ColdCase 12-10-2013 10:49 AM

Need is subjective. I love mine, don't know how I've lived without all these years. :)

Just one of life's simple pleasures I guess, and I think everyone needs a bit of pleasure. For those more practical, there is no need to use bulky driving gloves with all their disadvantages.

Its one of those things you can do without ... until you have it. Then you wouldn't want to go without it. I don't wear gloves in the car on the cold days anymore.

It's also one of those things that since you paid for it, you want it to work!

Tru dat.

My Jeep sits outside and when it is 40 degrees or less I use remote start when I am getting my coat on to go and when I get to my Jeep my seat is warm and my steering wheel is warm and I don't need gloves. They are correct, once you get it you cannot live without it.

Update:
Per Chrysler, the heated seat controller also controls the heated steering wheel and should be replaced as next step. Unfortunately, part is on national backorder. Guess they are having some issues. Not sure I completely buy the diagnosis. Why would changing the wheel solve the issue for a week if the controller is bad. Maybe a bad controller is damaging the heater element in the wheel? My wheel did get quite warm.

As to the need of a heated wheel...

I'm sure none of us "need" a GC in the first place. All the bells and whistles are nice to have and its annoying when they don't work especially with temps in the single digits right now.

No, but do most of the JGC owners need a JGC? No, but it sure is nice to have one!

Sorry, but that sounds like some BS to me. If that was the case then your heated seats wouldn't work.

Not necessarily - you have no idea how the internals work;)

I wonder if there is a short somewhere in the wiring?
