grill upgrade - Limited to Sumitt

I did not care for the horizontal slat grill on my Limited and found on JustforJeeps the replacement honeycomb Summit grill for under $30. The std grill shows the 2 horns and too much of the radiator for my liking. Little tricky to instal but the result is great. BTW the black grill (Overland) costs more for some reason?

Yeah it does seem like a lot of work but the results are nice.

Really like the look of that. How long did it take to install?

Could you link to the exact item you bought? I believe we have the same model jeep

Forum sponsor http://moparonlineparts.com sells the same part for $21. Just for Jeeps is always high on parts and shipping, but their customer service may be worth it. You could also pick one up at you local dealer parts desk for about $30, less if your dealer offers discounts to those who purchased the vehicle there... saving you the shipping hassle.... Your call.

Thanks for the info, going to look into all 3 options

I do like the look of that grill insert. Do you think it would fit a 2011 Laredo?

fun2drive 05-14-2014 10:23 AM

Looks good I too like the Summit look more than my Overland...

Bought one yesterday at dealership for 27 bucks.. Tax included

Just painted them black and researching on how to remove them... Will definitely paint the grille rings as well but don't really want to remove whole bumper thingy. Ha

rk1538 05-14-2014 03:41 PM

ordered them today.
Is its true that i can do the change without putting the bumper down ?

stevekcropper 05-14-2014 06:50 PM

You can switch them out without removing the whole bumper. Open the hood and you see 2 grommets on the black plastic strip that sits over the grill. Pop these up and remove them, you can then release the black strip and bend this and the grill forwards a few inches. The grill inserts are held in place with prongs that snap into place and the hardest part is releasing these. Pushing hard from the front gets some free and a flat head screwdriver might get others free. Once you get some going it gets easier. Wear work gloves. It took about 30 plus minutes to get all 3 pieces out. Getting the new ones in takes no more than 5 mins.

Mofsteel, yeah I am aware... Nearly double price for just black one. No thanks. Just plasti dipped them yesterday. Tried to remove the inserts.. Fricking hard! Black plastic trim? What do u mean? (Top of grille?)

Thanks

stevekcropper 05-15-2014 09:47 AM

When you lift the hood there is a piece of black plastic that is horizontal accross the top of the grill. It looks like it is a seperate piece to the grill but is in fact all in one. There is a gromet on each side that holds it in place, remove this by prising it upwards with a flat head screwdriver. This horizontal trim can then be released but as stated above it is one piece with the grill, you can bend it forwards enough with the grill to get your hands behind. The best way to get the grill released is a lot of pressure directly from the front, once some of the tabs pop you can try and prise it further with a flat head screwdriver. Hope this helps.
