Smart move. Why would anyone want the 3.7 if it gets the same MPG as Hemi?

The eight-speed transmission will be added to the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango by late 2012 or early 2013, as well. Chrysler’s filing says that the new transmission will eventually be used in all its rear-wheel-drive products except for heavy-duty trucks.
So does that mean most likely it will be mated to the V8s as well?

There is talk that 8 speed will not be available till 2014 MY. I can not wait that long. Plus might not like the changes on the 2014?

I'm in the same boat as you with ordering the wk2. If it really is 2014 MY, I can't wait that long either.

QUOTE "Starting in late 2012 through 2013, we plan to include this transmission in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Dodge Durango and Ram 1500 pick-up truck," Chrysler said in the report.
Thats year not Model Year = 1 full Year

For some time the ZF-8 was to be in MY 2013 WK2 units. Now it's MY 2013 1/2. Will they really change transmissions mid-year when MY 2014 is likely to be a major upgrade?

Maybe, but this is starting to smell like vaporware for the near term.

Also iffy is this from that same article:
Quote:
Chrysler’s SEC filing revealed that the company will launch engine stop-start technology in the U.S. soon. The European-market Jeep Wrangler diesel already has such a system; by 2017, Chrysler says 90 percent of its U.S.-market vehicles will be equipped with engine stop-start.
Just hope it can be user-disabled!

UPDATE: Elsewhere, it has just been reliably indicated that the 8-speed won't be in the MY 2013 WK2 (sigh).
