Hey guys, I've been lurking around the Wk2 forum for a few months and id like to chime in..

first off I'm not a yet a wk2 owner, but I'm in the process of trying to sell my 2001 jetta and cross over into the suv market, that said i believe this can be accomplished with a capacitor, on my 2001 jetta the traction control defaults to on and given that i have done numerous mods to the car its a pita, stage 2 tune, and spraying water meth constantly makes you break loose when the boost comes on (fwd ftl) and when it does boy does the traction control let you know (its a manual so you feel it even more)

so i got pissed having to turn off the traction control by pushing the button every time i got in the car, so i soldered in a capacitor in between the wires so that when i turn on my car, the cap stores power and "fires" making the car think someone pushed the button..

i don't have access to a wk2 yet so idk the pinout of the eco switch but its basically the came guys can read up on this vw thread

That kind of stuff does not work on a modern can-bus electrical system. Any how, with the latest trans software, eco mode is fine. Pre update and it was unbearable at times. If not in eco mode, my trans rarely goes into 8th even on the highway. This is with the V6.
