ECO Mode

I have a question on the Eco mode of the 2014 Grand Cherokee. Since I've had the car it has always been illuminated as orange when on, yet some owners say that theirs is green when on. Does anyone know the color the Eco mode light should illuminate as. Thx

My 2014 is green. Never saw it turn orange.

Mine is orange, for about five seconds until I turn it off.

Ok, maybe I'm crazy.. . Paid closer attention, and it was orange the whole drive time. Could have swore it was green. My wifes town and country is green for sure though. However, in the owners manual for 2014 JGC, it says "Press the “eco” switch in the center stack of the
instrument panel and a green light will indicate the ECO
mode is engaged."

That is my concern as well the manual says it should be green but mine was always orange. Maybe the manual is just wrong. I stopped by service this morning hoping up get a quick answer and they said I need to make an appointment for it to be looked at

My V6 '14 Limited just has the simple "ECO" button (which I hope stands for "Economy" not "Eco-friendly"). It shows an amber light when it is turned on... which is the automatic default setting.

The manual shows a fancier button with a pretty pictogram of a fuel pump and a leaf on it. Plus the description sound like it's default setting should be off. Perhaps this is what comes on the V8, Diesel, or Overland and above models.

It bugs me that the ECO is default on. It really degrades the performance of the JGC and, best as I can tell, doesn't really help w/ the mileage. Plus, if I really cared about fuel economy I wouldn't have bought a JGC in the first place.

It's habit for me now. Push start button then push Eco button to turn it off. I hate how it makes the Jeep feel, especially in city driving.

The Eco button on my 2014 GC Overland with the V8 illuminates orange when activated. You would think it would be the same color across all the models, but what do I know

Interesting thread...

The 2014 Grand Cherokee User Manual (Third Edition Rev.1) states:
FUEL ECONOMY(ECO) MODE
• The Fuel Economy (ECO) mode can improve
the vehicle’s overall fuel economy
during normal driving conditions.
• Press the “ECO” switch in the center
stack of the instrument panel and a
amber light will indicate the ECO mode
is engaged.
• When the Fuel Economy (ECO) Mode
is engaged, the vehicle control systems
will be able to change the following:
• The transmission will upshift sooner
and downshift later.
• The overall driving performance will
be more conservative.
• Some ECO mode functions may be
temporarily inhibited based on temperature and other factors.
The 2014 Grand Cherokee Owner Manual (3ED-R2) states:
Fuel Economy (ECO) Mode
The Fuel Economy (ECO) mode can improve the vehicle’s
overall fuel economy during normal driving conditions.
Press the “eco” switch in the center stack of the
instrument panel and a green light will indicate the ECO
mode is engaged.
When the Fuel Economy (ECO) Mode is engaged, the
vehicle control systems will change the following:
• The transmission will upshift sooner and downshift
later.
• The torque converter clutch may engage at lower
engine speeds and remain on longer.
• The engine idle speed will be lower.
• The overall driving performance will be more
conservative.
• Some ECO mode functions may be temporarily inhibited
based on temperature and other factors.
I'm making an educated guess it is supposed to be amber, but I've forwarded the information on.

Thanks!

I've been told it's supposed to be an amber light.

Sport

I can understand the complaints about performance of the JGC in ECO mode, esp at low speed.

BUT if you have a '14 why do you bother to shut it off, why not just run in Sport mode via the shift lever.

I toggle in and out of sport as needed (passing, pulling out, hills, etc) and dont even worry/think about the ECO mode or button

The confusion is most likely that at some point the light was going to be green, but then for whatever reason, decision was mad to make it amber. Chrysler likely contracts out the production of the print materials, and the final copy of the print was sent out before the decision was made to make the light amber.

If print is done in-house, then its probably as simple as them forgetting to change the print material after decision to make light amber.

Unfortunately nothing from Jeep about making it a set it, and forget it, button? Personally I want the "eco" mode off in city traffic.

Leaving the transmission in Sport is set it and forget it
