Decision to make?!?

Ok, so I have been looking at GC to replace my CTS. I have the a choice between a 2014 Laredo with the following packages:
Customer preferred package 23E
Trailer tow group IV
Security and Convenience group
Off road adventure I
Power sunroof

2013 Limited with 20500 miles with basically the same options with the exception of leather seating

Same money for each unit @ $36000

Having a hard time deciding which GC to get? Is it worth stepping down to the Laredo with cloth seats for the new mileage and new tranny?

Thoughts?

I like leather personally but that is my own opinion. I hate giving advise on these kinds of problems as I would hate to cloud your own judgement. What do you value more? The less miles? Will the 1 year older Limited depreciate a little slower than the newer Laredo? Do you mind cloth seats?

tdbmd 06-19-2013 07:59 PM

I would guess that the '13 has already taken its share of the depreciation issue, that is true. My last few vehicles have had leather but I don't mind cloth. This will get some duty in hunting and camping mode, so I don't know if the cloth will wear better or worse in that role? Both have heated seats, but the 2013 does have rear heated seats as well. Leather is a bit more "sweaty" in the summer. I did not notice any big problems with the 5 speed in the '13 but the 8 speed tranny is certainly smooth.

For the newer tranny alone I would do the Laredo. I would give anything to have my 2012 Laredo with the 8 speed.

I would try and find a more basic 2014 limited and try and get it down closer in price. Worth it to me IMO.

I owned a 2011 and now have a 2014. The new tranny is great for MPG hwy and the sport mode is also great, but I saw nothing wrong with the 5 spd in the 2011 frankly. The new tranny is so focused on mpg it drives really slow around town IMO

You should be able to get a NEW 14 ltd for about 37. Mine with ORAII was 37,999.

good luck

So far the cheapest '14 Limited that I can find with basically equal features has been at $38k, OTD. Lots of them have the Hemi, which I don't really need. Thanks for the opinions so far!

I don't know, the used car seems high and I know it is because it doesn't have any manufacturer rebates on the hood. Are those the negotiated prices or the asking prices? I only paid $38k for a brand new 2013 Overland V8 4x4, so for me the used Limited sounds really high.

For 3 years and you get 1% under invoice. 20K+ miles in a vehicle that isnt even a year old is lot of miles.

I would go new with 2014 and get a basic V6 Limited. You can find one.

I'd go new, especially for the 8 sp. (although I have a '13 & I'm fine with the 5 sp) If you really want leather & can afford it, try pricing out a '14 Limited with the other options you want. If you haven't already.

Keep in mind that if you don't get the navigation option now on the 14, you can't add it later. You cannot even add an aftermarket unit to the 14.

Tough decision buddy!

Try to see if the dealer will give you each vehicle for a day.

I have a 2012 Limited
Love ...
-Leather seats and rugged looks
-All options

Don't like...
-clunk in rear suspension
-dated radio head unit
-V8 shudder issue(not in V6)

Wish list for my rig...

-Smoother transmission
-better radio head unit
-no clunk in rear suspension

Good luck !

I drove the Limited for about 60 miles over city/highway and it was a nice ride. I did not notice any specific engine or tranny issues. My drive in the '14 was much shorter, about 8 miles or so. Also very nice. The leather probably looks a bit more luxurious but I keep cars for a while and some leather seats that I have had have not held up as well as cloth. Don't know about Jeeps, however.

The '14 Limited that I am finding are invoicing for right about $39700-$40000. That seems to be as low as anyone is willing to go on the '14, to the dealer invoice price.

kkreit01 06-20-2013 02:00 PM

That wouldn't be a decision at all. Buy new!

Dave2002ti 06-20-2013 02:20 PM

Folks have been getting 4 to 6%

Under invoice with group buys. search for that other forum.
Tread Lightly guarantees 1% under invoice which is a good starting point.
