Day time runing lights

Dealer told me today that the wk2,s have problems melting the bulbs

There have been several discussions here about discoloration of the reflector and overheating of the socket. The bulbs themselves don't seem to melt.

The bulb on my driver's side was almost fused into the socket.

The plastic on the on the bulb that go,s into the housing melts .

I have on mine 10k still fine.

My girl is a 2011 and I have put 50.000 km on It ,but its the bulbs not the jeep .

Do the export or canadian models use a higher wattage bulb than the USA models?

I would say no. I was told by the dealer (unrelated to this) but he basically said that there is no significant difference between the Canadian or the US built Jeeps that are in the US or Canada. He said sometimes packages offered are different but the build is the same. So based on that comment I would be surprised that bulbs would be different in any way.

The Exports use the same 3157 dual contact 21w 8w bulb that the US spec uses.

However the Exports use the 21w as the DRL and the 8w as the running/city light so basically that socket is always lit which could age the socket faster.

Bump

Passenger side drl is out again. Second time. 2 1/2 yrs old. Looks like a chronic issue. This one is burned out like the first one. Going to start looking and see if I can find a smaller relay to put in place that will hopefully prolong the life of the bulb.

Hopefully JeepCares has seen all the other threads on this issue.

A smaller relay won't do anything except probably burn up the relay, your only option to pro long the life would be figuring out how to out a LED bulb in there.

FAst shipping and reliable. Ive used them for motorcycle bulbs for a few years now as well as retrofitting on my other vehicles pre-Jeep. Maybe Ill order a set up since they are only DRLs and not really for night driving.
