I took my new 2016 GC Laredo on the beach yesterday and was not impressed! I was getting off the sand on a slight incline and the traction ctrl would not let off the brakes! i turned the switch off but i am reading everwhere that it only reduces tc & does not disable it! I went through the manual and it says to disable esc "if equiped" hold down the esc for five seconds & you will get a beep. NO BEEP! no 4wd low and i have no mode selector. Help!!!:surprise:
Not sure what's wrong with 'clicky'. Many of us read a variety of posts, to learn something, but a good percentage of us don't have any specific knowledge of your particular issue (my wife's GC is strictly mechanical) and it's pointless those of us to post an uninformed opinion.
Ha! i answered my own question. No Anthony it cant be disabled because Chrysler apparently thinks we cant control our own vehicles when off road so they decided to cripple them instead.
I will try and pull the abs fuse and see if the codes are permanent or if they go away. if they go away i can install a switch. We live in a federal nanny society & we are letting them take away our freedom 1 by 1.
Monarchco i know, i know lol. I never expected a GC to be unable to disable at the very least traction ctrl. I just don't get it. I mean, it is a jeep for heaven's sake.
Most people who take it offroad have QD2, which, when in 4L, the system automatically disables the TSC and ESP systems. The alternative is the "sand" mode which QD2 also has.
The V6's lack a low range setting makes its less than ideal for offroad, but QD1 is otherwise fine in most situations.
It's worth noting, that disabling traction control(by pushing the button, aka, setting it to "partial-on"), disables the throttle limiting portion of traction control, just not the rest of it. This does allow limited wheel spin, and in itself should be enough to make the system work fine with sand.
Take note that pulling the abs fuse does not disable the system, and instead sets the system to full on. It's also worth noting that we cannot disable it entirely by holding the button for 5 seconds like wranglers can.
I don't think many people are experienced with this, as people who generally get QD1(no dial), typically aren't doing the same volume of offroading as those with QD2(offroad).
If you want an alternative solution, I run with traction boards in the event of "getting stuck"(particularly in a place where there's nowhere to anchor a winch). This helps in places where the lack of low range or sandy spots put me in a bad position. They also work well in mud, snow, etc.
About the only time traction boards cant really replace a winch, is in very deep mud(you cant see your tires), or otherwise deep liquid(swamps, rivers, etc).
I'll second what ColdCase stated. QT1 is capable, but it (and the Laredo) not designed for the more "adventuresome" off-road situations. For that, you need QT-II/QD-II with the low range and other terrain amenities.
It would seem to me that if you had done a little more homework before you bought, you might not be in this situation. The problems you discuss have been talked about here, and in other WK2 forums. Looks like you just bought a vehicle that wasn't equipped for the use you had in mind.
Guys i appreciate the responses ...Pulled the 40 amp marked abs pump and both abs & esc lights came on. Took it to dirt trail near my house and Spun the tires to my heart's delight! I read Monarchco post and he stated would not work but i managed to lock up the brakes also.... Have no idea what is going on here but it seems to work!?
Truthfully when I'm in Corolla I'm staying in the dunes so I go in and out a lot all week and rather than air up and air down the tires constantly I usually try to cheat, so yeah on the WK2 I'll often run it in the mid 20's though I think many people drop it to the high teens.
No I haven't tried pulling the ABS fuse because the QTII in auto or sand mode does just fine if I do drop air pressure. It can struggle a little on the deep dune crossings if I don't drop the air.
But I've never needed to seek disabling the TC or BLDs.
Maybe the QTII transfer case really does make that big a difference.
Thanks Kev, I am going to take it back to the spot where it tried to kill it self lol & take out the fuse and report back. If i have someone with me i will take a video of it.
Good luck. It will be an interesting experiment. Looking forward to hearing the results (hopefully you've found a easy way for owners to get out of a tough spot on QTI rigs).
Meh, we all make spelling mistakes. Hell I've been in publishing for 25 years and see my own ones in print (often without a way to ever fix them). Oh well.
Click, clique. There, their, they're. Too, two, to. It's amazing we manage to communicate at all. And don't even get me started on redundancies like "ATM machine", "VIN/PIN number", and "foreign import".
And then there's things like this that cause me to slam on my brakes in traffic;
rockhead261 lmao! lol! I just took mine! Can someone else with a select track-1 please pull there ABS pump fuse 40a out and confirm my findings so maybe someone here like a mod can post a sticky showing this is a solution for 2016 at least........ There is zero info on the net about this for a 14-16.
You asked at 1:45, then ranted at 2:24 because no one had run out and pulled a fuse on a vehicle with an option very few of us (if any) have. Are you for real? No wonder you got stuck in the sand.
"Can someone else with a select track-1 please pull there ABS pump fuse 40a out"
I don't think any WK2s were built with a select track-1, so you may be waiting for awhile I don't think they put them in WKs either, but I think my WJ had one.
It looks like the post and rant were 25 hours apart, I think..... 1:45 on the first and 2:45 on the second. Still not that much time for something only one or two members care about. There was much discussion back in the 2012 time frame where folks wanted to do some snow drifting, but that was for early models and 2016 may be a bit different.
As far as the ABS fuse is concerned there is zero power to the ESC system. I took the Jeep on to sand at another spot & i left the tires full at 33 pounds and i had no issues. I was able to spin the tires to my heart's delight & did not get stuck like last time. I can report back that pulling the 40a fuse disables the entire system including hill descent on a 2016 GC Laredo.
Thanks for all the helpfull posts in here guys :highfive:. I will be installing a switch under the dash sometime soon.
It helps if you read other posts on here on exactly how to drive these jeeps too. If you hear the abs motor and let off you are not going to go anywhere. If you hit the button to disable traction control and then hold your foot down it allows the torque to transfer between the tires. I ran into this the first time I took my wifes jeep off road. I thought I was stuck in the sand, hit the button and gave it some gas and it pulled itself right out. All you've done is give yourself full engine power and disabled the anti lock braking system that is designed to help you off road.
You can fully defeat it if you buy a vehicle that can actually do something with it. You can disable it in a wrangler for off road use, you can disable it in ram trucks for off road use, raptor same thing, dodge charger road and track, srt, hellcat, can all be disabled for track use. If you get a grand cherokee with qt2 different select terrain modes disable esp pretty much fully in mud mode, the others it changes how it operates based on your expected conditions. On something like the OP has there is no way of disabling esp and making sure you aren't on the road and go and kill yourself. Now your family has a lawsuit against FCA because you disabled stability control and then lost control driving down the road. Every vehicle has some form of stability control now, so either buy a pre 2009 or so vehicle or buy one you know it can be disabled on.
Meh, turned off traction control and gunned it. Street pressure with 3 people and weekend camping gear for the load. QTII and V8 - don't have to pull fuses.
