Is the back up camera worth the upgrade to the Limited?

Alright I'm still waiting to get everything together so I can purchase my Jeep. However I've ran into a slight problem. This weekend I drove a Ford with a Back up camera. My heart is set on a Laredo E but I drove that Ford with a back up camera and got to thinking about that for the Jeep. Any of you that have the Limited is the back up camera any good. I'd like to keep the UConnect5 screen and keep it as low tech as possible but I'm wondering about that back up camera; how good is it and is it worth it?

Thanks. This is a great forum and so far has been very helpful.

No need for the limited. I have the Laredo X with the backup camera. I like it and find it very helpful.

My two cents, yes, I love the backup camera and I'd suggest getting it. It was NOT on my feature list when I bought the vehicle.

IMHO, the small rear quarter windows combined with the 'tall body' makes it very difficult to monitor your read corners.

And, in an almost completely unrelated rant, the 'tall body' style of vehicles which I first noticed on large Ford vehicles about 5-7 years ago has become the norm. I love the look of my Jeep but I wish the balance between looks and visibility could be better.

My Laredo X came with one. However, I think they've cheapened them up, and you have to get the Limited now? I've now had 4 vehicles with backup camera. I wouldn't be w/o one in a truck or SUV. Even my previous car had a high trunk line. It depends on your neighborhood. We have lots of small children nearby, and lots of kids walking to school in the mornings. You might be able to add one, but confirm with your dealer first. It may be pricey.

If you want it then get it on the car when you buy because aftermarket addons to the 2014 seems harder, for now anyway because of the new electronics.

I have one in my altitude and I love it. I definitely wasn't looking for it, but now that I have it I am attached to it. When I drive cars that don't have one, I really miss it.

Have one on my CTS-V coupe and couldn't do without it due to its limited visibility.

Me too. Recently bought a 2011 Laredo X. I was not shopping for a backup camera but I am happy to have it, especially since I'm coming to the JGC from a much smaller car.

I will be coming from an Equinox and I'm a short woman lol used to driving big cars/SUV's but I do see your points. When I get ready to order I'll probably get the back up camera. I plan on owning this SUV longer that I've owned my Equinox (5 years with the last 2 being ****). Thanks for all your guys advice.

The base limited replaced the Laredo x. If you want to keep the RA2 radio in a limited you will have to order it, because I would be willing to bet no dealer will order a stock unit without the big radio. Especially considering it is a $400 option to step up to the 8.4" radio.

I also have the back up camera in my Altitude and love it. I don't think its 'cheap' either. The quality of the picture is great, and the indicator lines of where you are backing up to are spot on.

I highly recommend it. A camera should never replace turning around, checking mirrors, etc....rather, its a great additional tool.

Backup camera

I absolutely love mine. Parking in a garage or other new area is a lot easier with the camera!

As noted above the OP is looking at a 2014. The laredo X not longer exists for 2014. The backup camera in the 2011-2013 is good, the camera in my Limited 2014 is better. Base '14 limited now = old laredo x more or less

Test drive a limited and test it out, you will really like the camera. The 'lines' on the screen bend as you steer which is very helpful and way cool. the new radio units are also much more modern than 2011-2013

I have to say that the backup camera in general is great. Ive had it on all my cars. My Jeep has it too....however, I find it difficult to backup with the moving lines when you turn the steering wheel....i probably havent gotten used to it yet....car is only 2 weeks old
