This is great information. Thanks. It is definitely tied into the cabin temperature. I parked my car in a sunny location for 4 hours last Sunday. The outdoor air temperature was in the 22F range although; the cabin was probably in the mid 70's. I was in manual mode set in the mixed (air out of the panel vents and floor vents) setting. The manual temperature settings were set at 67 F and the compressor was engaging.

I'm 99.9% sure my A-C compressor never runs in Economy Mode regardless of temp. setting.

I will double-check my operation too once the weather warms-up some.
^ My 2012 works the same. Like he says above the system must be set to blow out the upper vents only. We did not think it was working properly, returned it to the dealer. They said there was no problem, but when we got it back, all of a sudden it did work as we expected and wanted it to.

Current Observations

I experimented with the following settings today in manual mode.

1) Switched to panel ventilation only. The A/C compressor didn't engage.
2) I parked the car for a few hours in the sun. The cabin temp was approx 80 F. The A/C didn't engage when set to panel ventilation only.
3) After a few minutes, I switched to mixed air and the A/C compressor didn't engage.
4) I parked the Jeep outside for a few more hours, started it in the mixed air setting and the A/C compressor didn't engage.

I believe there is some type of programming glitch as sometimes the compressor automatically engages and sometimes it does not. I'll check the TSB's for any programming updates.
