Add DRL to a 2012?

I didn't see anything in the search so....
Does anyone know what all is involved with adding DRL to a 2012? Our Laredo X didn't have it, and I was wondering if all it takes is a memory flash by the dealer? I wanted to ask here, before I go asking the dealer. That way I get an idea of whether or not I hear the truth, or some BS that makes it sound like they're doing a lot for my money.
We're getting some warranty work done soon, so I wanted to see if I could get it done cheaper. Although, it's BS in my opinion that DRLs aren't federally mandated. They care if you can't see behind you, but they don't care is someone can see you before they pull out in front of you?

Just had it done to my 2011 Laredo X. The service manager looked at me like I had 2 heads when I told him what I wanted to have done. "It's not possible" he said. I knew it was possible and talked to one of the service Tecs. He knew exactly what to do. He had to dig a little deep in the computer to find it, but he enabled them in 10 minutes. They go on when the vehicle is in drive.

Perseverance is the key. It can definitely be enabled, It's in there. Just a matter of finding the right guy to do it. Good Luck.

Possible with a base '12 Laredo? I don't imagine the computers are different in the two models.

Did they charge you anything for it?

Sounded to me like yes. Just a matter of finding the right person/persons.

Um........ a little lunch money

With obscure stuff like this, I usually ask the parts guys who they think is the best Service Tec and just speak with him directly. You may get lucky and find a service manager willing to put in the effort of getting this done. I would figure it should cost whatever they charge for a normal flash.

Does this require the HID headlights or will this work for the halogens also?

DRLs are not integrated into HIDs. On the new models the DRLs are LEDs. On 11-13 they are halogen because DRLs utilize the high beam.

I wonder if there's a way to switch it to the low beams in the setup? I realize that the high beams are more visible, but I always hate being the guy coming the other way, even in the daylight. My Avy and Grand Prix both have DRLs, and they both run in the fog light area. Much easier on other drivers.

I should have clarified. The DRLs utilize the high beam but only at like 10% brightness (I don't know what exactly what but it isn't full brightness).

DRLs on a 2012 "with HIDs" are the inside lights and dedicated to DRL only.

You're right. I was thinking of another vehicle but not sure which one. Haha

DRL inside lamp only. Apologies, all.

Sent from my underground lair.

Dealer said $90 to do it, though their computer was "down" that day anyway. But I wasn't about to pay them $90 for that. Just like the hitch wiring. I had another dealer do it when I had warranty work done, and got it for $50 (the towing lights, a few months ago). This dealer wasn't willing to help me out on the DRLs, even though I had it in for warranty work there as well.

Such BS for something that should be standard on every car.

Bummer. Kinda the results I first encountered. Yes, aggravating to say the least. Not every dealer wants to be bothered with DRL turn ons. Most don't even realize they can do it (until you explain it to them).
