Just called back and spoke to a different guy. He said there are no notes in the system for my vehicle but it sounded like he meant to tell me the hydraulic tappets needed to be replaced. I'm assuming the V6 has these?

So I have talked to a few other people and they seem to think this would of happened from a lack of oil. The vehicle has had oil since we purchased it but it had 36 miles on it already. I suppose that is enough time to mess up a few things. Now I am concerned if that was the cause that this is going to be an on going issue where other parts of the engine will start to fail.

Glad to hear they found the issue even though it's pretty serious. Guess even with the 2017s that the failing heads are still an issue. I'll have to keep a close eye on mine. I get a lot of lifter/valve noise until the engine get's oil.

Wonder if someone romped on it on a test drive after just starting it. That's the whole reason why when I purchased mine it still had all of the plastic and 5 miles on it. Granted I've had my fair share of issues with my TH as well.

Something tells me that they're just slapping these things together to meet numbers. My 2015 didn't have half as many issues.

I would get it checked out. I have lost lost hope in my dealer at this point. They called yesterday asking if I had the Grand Cherokee with the leaking sun roof... I responded with what the issues were on mine and they said "Sorry wrong customer. Your parts are still on national back order with no ETA". I called and made a case with the jeep social cares on Saturday and got a case# but apparently i am waiting for a case manager to contact me now?!
Either way NJ lemon law states you can apply after 20 cumulative days in the shop and today is day 6.

The Jeep Cares people on the forum here can pick it up and run with it, Jeep Wave also can take a look at the case/open a file as well.

My amplifier failed before I took delivery and the dealer claimed no knowledge. Needless to say I was pissed.

Less than 500 miles

I purchased the Trailhawk December 28 and within a day or two notice the ticking sound when cold or hot. At all times. Went back to the dealer and had them start a similar vehicle and it purred. No ticking. They had me drop it off at the service department and they replaced the intake side lifters and associated parts. No resolution. They called Chrysler mechanic for guidance and now he says to replace the exhaust side lifters and associated parts. I should have more info tomorrow when I go to the dealer.

This is on a Jeep I drove for less than one week and out on less than 150 miles. Very frustrating. If this exhaust side fix doesn't work I'm not going through a head replacement or any other major surgery. I'm going to ask for an exchange of the vehicle. I opened a case with Jeep Wave but I'm not sure what they are doing to help.

Anybody know the process to start to exchange a vehicle that is brand new, one week driven? I do not think it is fair that I should buy this Jeep and then have to have major engine work immediately.

Contact the dealer and ask for a replacement. I'm sure they'll say no. Otherwise you'll need to follow your state's lemon laws.

I have my fingers crossed I don't develop a similar issue. It only ticks for 30 secs on initial start up and then purrs like a kitten.

Hi jamokebob,

I'm really sorry to hear about this experience with your brand new Trailhawk. If you'd like me to follow up on your case, or if you have additional questions, please feel free to PM your VIN or case # and I will investigate further.

Hey VelociGaptor. Did you get final resolution to your ticking problem? What exactly did Jeep fix over the period they had your vehicle in the service department?

No, it's still sitting in their back lot with the parts on national back order. I have a expected part arrival date of Jan 20th. Hopefully then they will be able to look and tell me why this happened.

They just called me with the update of most of the parts are in they are just waiting on one more rocker arm. Guess I didn't know that was an issue either. Now I have to take the rental back for a dealership loaner.

Got my Jeep back yesterday. It's purrring. One bad lifter. But they replaced all the lifters, rockers and sensors. Fingers crossed now.

Day 15. I get a call yesterday saying they were 90% done with the vehicle but they didn't have a tool they needed to finish it. Was told it would be finished first thing Friday morning. Today, 20 Jan I finally get a cal around 4:00pm stating its done. Then at 4:12pm I get another call saying it has a check engine light.
My technician is apparently off tomorrow and they are closed Sunday so it looks like I am going to hit my 20 cumulative days in the shop for New Jersey Lemon Law
