2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Ticking noise

Recently purchased a 2017 Trailhawk and noticed this morning after remote starting that there was a ticking noise coming from what sounded like the engine. After driving around with the window down you can really hear the ticking when applying gas up through the gears. I only have 450 miles one this thing. Anyone else heard of this issue?

V8 or V6? May be an exhaust leak/cracked manifold..

I also have a 17 trailhawk v6 and it does the same thing. Not sure what it is but I am very interested in any suggestions.

Either warped exhaust manifold or low oil. Check your oil and while you're at it, make sure you have the correct dipstick in there. Some came with the wrong one (mine included). The Hemi by design "uses" oil, and I also had an exhaust manifold warp and replaced under warranty.

A few V6s have a bad rocker/valve, but most of the time this is a small exhaust leak at one of the fittings. Look for a carbon trail at fittings, but just take it into the dealer and complain about what sounds like an exhaust leak tick.

I've got a 17 TH as well, but I only notice a ticking when it's a cold start. Nothing during driving.

Is it coming from the passenger or driver side more? Earlier 3.6s were having issues with failing heads but most of the 2016s and 2017s should have that issue.

Could be the exhaust manifold like others have said. There was a TSB out for "the exhaust sounding louder than expected." ended up being the donut gasket from the manifold to exhaust

That sounds to me like exhaust manifold related, whether it's the manifold itself or a gasket. My guess is the manifold is warped, then warps back into place once it's warmed up. Happened to me.

This is a loud ticking that continues no matter how warm the vehicle gets. It has oil and the correct dipstick. It sounds like it is coming from the engine. I'm taking it tomorrow morning to get it looked at. I'll report back with the findings.

Good news! It was just the camshaft and lifters destroying each other.
Now I have a minivan for 10 days while they get the parts to fix this and hopefully everything else still works properly afterwards. That's a pretty sad start at only 460 total miles.

Your V6 has 4 camshafts, no lifters

Hmmm strange, that's what they said they were replacing and that these items were on back order.

They're adding the lifters for extra durability so this won't happen again.

Sarcasm.
