2014 WK2 vs 2013, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010

Which is the best year for the WK2 and why? Also which is the best WK2 setup/package for suburbia and part time camping and ski use?

The are no 2010s. Others are pretty much identical but there are differences in the option details. Wk2jeeps.com has specs and descriptions for all the years. Best is subjective, but any of them can be the best for camping, getting to the ski slopes, suburbia. There aren't any standouts. What's best for you depends on what features you like, for example; do you like leather.... Or do you want low cost, in which case a 2011 base laredo 4x4 is the best...

It is pretty much impossible to compare them. 2011-2013 are the same. There is no 2010 WK2 (go to the WK section). 2014 has some significant upgrades/updates over the previous years. What is best to me is not to someone else. I didn't want the technology and gizmos thus the Laredo line is the best.

I'd say 2013. 2011s and 2014s were buggy.

2014 is buggy, but its all software and will be ironed out eventually. I chose a 2014 over earlier vehicles primary for the performance and economy of the 8 speed transmission. Many forum members complain about how this transmission shifts, but mine is amazing. I suspect it is because I have a later build date, and as I stated, issues prior to that are primarily software related and are fixed by subsequent updates issued by Chrylser.

11 buggy?
early 11s like mine have a power steering pump and the v6 4x4 was rated at 22 mpg highway. the late 11+ have electric power steering and are rated at 23 highway( v6 4x4)
my 11 the only issue has been the heated seat pads, all have been replaced under warranty)
some 12s had a recall for cyc head issues ( replaced under warranty)
13s are good.
14s changed some and added a new 8 speed which gave the v6 4x4 24mpg highway and better gear ratios.

11-13 wk2 v6 4x4 1st gear will do 53 mpg before redline
14 does about 35mph.

then option.
11-13
Laredo with dark roof rails will not have options, and 17's
then Laredo with e package will have chrome roof rails and stuff like the 12v plug in on the back of the arm rest and 17's
then Laredo with x package will have heated leather and touch screen nad 18's
but there was a Laredo with e package with 20's and nav
if you find one with oem hitch it will have a full size spare and self leveling rear shocks too, that is a nice feature when loading down the jeep.
limited get you standard qt2, 2nd row heated seat, memory front seat and h.i.ds but mandatory sunroof, and alot of chrome parts, with polished 18's(usually).
then the Laredo trail hawk is another animal.

i really like my 11 wk2, i built what i wanted, as little chrome as jeep would do. no sunroof, tow package heated leather seats and nav.
mine is a v6 4x4 with qt1 (no low range, but does great off road, where you want to take a 40k suv) laredo x. in the 14 models it would be a base limited

all in all there is alot of combinations.

2011 was a looong model year, almost two typical years. In general, they certainly were not any more buggy than other years and I think before the V6 cylinder head issues. I've seen more reports here of 2014 bugs than any other, but those seem to to have been ironed out.

There are a lot of combos, IMHO no rule of thumb for which year was better, although there were some differences in detail, for example QD was standard on 2011 Overlands, you couldn't get in other trims. QD became part of the ORA2 package in 2012. Early 2011 Overlands didn't have QL. But QL and QD doesn't make one model better (or worse) than another for camping and ski trips.

I was just going off of Wikipedia which said it started in 2010 I think? What about the 4x4 capability of these WK2's? I think I like the 2011 body the best.

Wikipedia is wrong then.

There are many discussions on the three 4x4 systems. I would search around on here.

They are all very capable, choice of tires make more of a difference. If you need low range for challenging off road adventures, look for QTII. If you want the ultimate deep snow traction, get the QD. Any of them will get you where you want to go just as well as another, the only difference is the drama and confidence they inspire.... a sweeping generalization I know.

I test drove both a 2011 and 2012 and felt both the V6 and Hemi seemed sluggish and I never liked the radio and navigation in my 2009, and it was the same radio in the 2011 - 2013. I always prefer radios that have a tuning knob. I drove the 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited with V6 and it felt very quick, even in eco mode and the new radio is great, so I bought it. Mine was built in January 2013 and I have had no problems. I've had it for about 11 months and it has only been in for oil changes (some software updates have been done when it was in)

Dont forget

2011 to 2013 models have the special heated headliners ie the ones that NHTSA is investigating for fires.
