2014 limited (first opinions)

So I've had my 2014 for a few days now...so far VERY impressed. I was worried dropping from the Overland to the Limited, but the Lux II package is basically an Overland without the Quadralift and leather dash.

I'm astounded how much the ZF 8 speed changed this vehicle. Granted I'm coming from 2011 with the 5 speed dinosaur, but sheesh. It's way faster off the line, quieter, shifts are barely noticeable.

Lastly the technology is heads and tails above my 2011. Love it. Love it. Love it.

I'm a happy camper.

When we were buying, the wife and I looked at a 2012 and 2014 units. We agree with you, and bought the 2014.

That will suck when I have the back full of luggage someday, but I'll get over it

For me, the auto opening and closing tailgate made up for it.

My 2011 Overland had both auto opening tailgate and flipper glass. They say it was to improve visibility, which is crap. It was to save a few hundred bucks per car. Notice how many GCs are driving around? Even a $100 savings is very significant. Our opinions don't really matter.

The only thing that I miss from the 11 Overland is the ability to remotely open the two front windows to let the car cool on hot days when I got back to the dock after a day of fishing. My 11 was wonderful but the 14 is a much better Jeep for me. Just hoping that they don't mess up the WK2 when they go to the WK3. Happy Camper.

Our opinion will matter when we don't buy another GC!

I have been approached by my dealer about moving into a 14. When I reminded him of the feature that I use daily is not available on the 14 his response was that he had no answer for that objection and acknowledged that he has heard this from several other customers. They will be losing market share because the "accountants" wanted to save some money?

Based on the number of '14 GC's I see driving around I doubt it will hurt them much. I see many more 14's than I remember seeing with the WK2 first came out in '11. I think the '14 was a home run for Jeep.

I have a feeling the flipper glass will make a return very soon. In the mean time I will buy a cargo net and smile every time I hit the auto open and close button.

Depends on the area of the country I think. Not so many 2014s here, and most of those are ones who traded a 2011 or 2012 for one. The WK2 plant has been running at full capacity for several years now.

Perhaps some areas of the country are slow to catch up... ... just kidding!

The reason you didn't see many 2011 to 2013 WK2s is partly because JGC were suffering from the negative reputation of the post "ZJ" models.

After the ZJs, the designs got better but reliability went south.

The WK2s(starting with the 2011s) are slowly bringing back.

If you're not going to buy a vehicle because of one feature that's missing, you will most likely regret it. I too thought I'd miss the flipper glass and I thought it was dumb for Jeep to get rid of it. Then I bought a 2014 limited. This is a refined, fast, capable SUV loaded with technology. I honestly can say after 6 days of owning the vehicle, I don't even think about the flipper glass anymore.

Just don't make a dumb mistake by holding on to a feature that you can easily adjust to living without...

This is exactly the conclusion I came to when I chose the Limited over an Overland. There are a couple of other minor cosmetic differences as well, but nothing huge. Lastly, you can put the 20" wheel package on a Limited and have the Overland wheels.

We are loving our 2014 Limited equipped this way.
