For one thing it will need the HD 8speed, also the "diesel fluid" injection pump, tank, and special catalyst. Next it is stronger/more expensive to build than the V8, then all of those parts need to be inventoried and techs trained. And finally the EP to be gained from those who want to be first (their other car is a Prius or a Volt) will be added to the sticker.

Now those who would buy a Pentastar may be pushed into diesels (and those with may want to trade up) if the warm weather brings back head failures again.

Of course if it had been available when mine was bought, I really wanted a diesel, but have really grown to like the gas six. But then I also remember all of the years when diesel cost less than 87 PON.

One of these is a turbo diesel.
The diesel and the 3.6L v6 are available in the Laredo . The two v6,s & v8 are available from the limited up in Australia ?

I just called my local dealer and asked him if the order banks are open on the 2014 Jeep GC/Diesel. He said they have no information about it yet and have nothing in their computers regarding any 2014 options yet.
He thinks it will be available a long way out (think well past Q1 2014). Anyone else hear something along these lines?

Production for the 2014 diesel starts the last week of March.

Any idea when the order bank will open? If production starts end of march, it may not be able to get mine for 6 to 8 weeks afterwards which is too long!

The EPA base lots of conclusions on CARB findings. And CARB can be horribly wrong (Remember the fraud Dr Tran?). I believe exhaust from modern light clean diesels is far from ill effects. Its a fact: modern allowable diesel emissions are so obscenely clean that there is MORE particulate matter of any PM size coming off your wearing tires as rubber dust!!

Not so on 2013 Gas engine EPA Standards. That Hemi is putting out more PM albiet real tiny than any modern diesel period. Put 10,000 miles on a diesel and a large American V8 and go rub your finger on each tail pipe....Guess which will be black? (not the diesel!)....And when GC CRD comes out look at the mileage postings on the sticker- with that zf 8 speed GC CRD will be over 32 MPG. AAAHHH I could go on.

Looking to preorder the CRD as soon as it is possible.

That might be a bummer. It would be nice to have another geear on my 2008 so I could be running at 1,200 or 1,500 RPM when puttering along at 55 MPH.

I was hoping these were going to come out sooner. I was looking for a gc crd and had hopes that owners of the 07 and 08 diesel WK's would be trading up to the new diesels. Thinking there would be more available on the used market, but I couldn't wait any longer and picked up an 07 Crd a couple months ago.

According to Motor trend, the ecoDiesel will debut in January at the Detroit auto show and hit the showrooms "shortly thereafter" so I hope it won't be too long.

It looks like the new diesels use the urea system to reduce emissions.

Went to the Indianapolis Auto Show yesterday. Excited to partake in Camp Jeep. It was a highlight of the show. I asked the Jeep reps (who seemed to big fans too) about the diesel wk2 and they indicated it was pushed back to 2014.

I can't wait that long. I have 256k on my current Grand Cherokee and I need a new car soon. Hope this is not true.

I do not think it is true. I went to the dealer 2 days ago and they told me that they are waiting instructions on when to open the order banks. The car itself gets presented at the NAIAS on the 14th of January. I presume the order banks open that day or shortly after.

Order banks open on the 15th or 16th. So far all engines will be available for order.

They led me to believe the truck will be available (and debut as indicated) but the CRD power plant will not. From a marketing standpoint this makes sense, it elongates the buzz cycle. We'll find out soon enough. I'll gladly eat crow but I doubt my salt shaker will be necessary.

It was originally supposed to debut in the U.S. in the 2013 MODEL Year. It was pushed back to the 2014 MODEL Year. Jeep will start building 2014 Grand Cherokees Jan 22, 2013, and 2014 Grand Cherokee SRTs Feb 11, 2013. They will start building 2014 Grand Cherokees with the CRD on March 25, 2013.
