2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Uconnect Issue

Hello Guys,

Recently picked up a 2012 JGC, trying to synch my Iphone to the uconnect and it says that SMS is not supported by the iphone :wtf:

My coworker picked up the exact same car, different color, and his Blackberry SMS works perfect.

I found this video:

(I have the touch screen headunit, but Uconnect seems to be the same)

That guy is recommending installing Dragon Speak to my iphone, which is a voice to text software. Personally I do not like this idea.

Has anyone else figured out a work around for this??

Thanks guys!!

Yeah, get rid of the iPhone and your SMS will work fine.

Mine won't work on an Android device or Blackberry

I've got an iphone 4 and I tried using the Dragon Dictation app as seen in the video from the OP and also the google search app using the voice command and my bluetooth is not recognizing it. Any ideas?

After we upgraded Android on my wife's phone, we couldn't get it to call out via Uconnect. We tried everything. Finally, after resetting the phone back to "factory settings", we got it working again. Uconnect is a nice thought (when it works), but it can't compare to Sync. I've had Sync for 2 years on 2 different vehicles, and 0 problems. I can't say that for the few months I've had Uconnect. UConnect seems way picky when it comes to types of phones, operating systems/versions, etc.

In order for SMS to work the phone needs to support the message access profile (MAP) in its Bluetooth stack. Blackberrys and most Verizon droids are the only phones that support it.

I don't really mind not being able to text from my car, but you'd think that if an automaker put a feature like that in to their stereo unit, they would make it compatible with the most popular phone model in the country (iPhone)

You can still use Siri to send a text while driving.

Concerning the texting, uConnect is compatible. It's the cell phones that aren't.

this because Apple does not support the Bluetooth profile MAP ( message access profile) and BB does. SMS on Uconnect works fine as long as the phone supports the BT profile.
