2011 wk2

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums but I've been reading a lot and gathering a lot of valuable information from all the posts. Thanks to all of you who shared your project!

I finally got my company car so this Jeep is getting some modifications! I got the RR lift kit, plus new wheels and tires are on the way. This one is a 2011 and has 27,000 (mostly highway) miles on it, Laredo X package. I have no complaints at all with it, although the fuel pump went out but that was replaced under warranty. Previously I had a '95 that I kept until I got this one!

This picture is the Jeep completely stock, later this week I'll put a pic up with it lifted, and the new wheels & tires. In the future I hope to add the bike rack on the roof, plus rails.

OK here we go! Finally got it out of the various shops it was in!

Here it is with the RR 2.5" lift kit, 265/70/17 tires.

Tires: These are the Wild Country XTX Sport AT tires 265/70/17. Should get 50k out of them, and have heard nothing but good reviews on them. They do well in snow and sand, which is what we have a lot of here in Michigan (although I have yet to test them). Noise level is pretty good, hard to notice until you hit 40 mph, and better than the BFG AT's on my other Jeep. Size-wise I would say you could go wider, depending on your wheel, but not much taller as the last pic shows the clearance.

Wheels: I wanted plain steel wheels but they were so hard to find I settled on these, but I still think they look good. These are the American Racing ATX series, AX188 Ledge; some also have similar wheels posted on here. I fear the plastic hub cover things will get smashed, but we'll see.

Massive bike rack on the back, and I'm going to get the bike rack for the roof going soon. For future adds I'm thinking about rails.

Looks awesome,keep the pics coming,cheers

Here's a crappy cell phone pic with the roof rack finally on. I haven't noticed much difference in mileage with it yet, unlike my last jeep. I can still get 22-23 MPG on the highway (without a bike on the roof).

For those of you looking for a roof rack the Yakima RailGrab Towers fit the factory roof rails for $165/set of four, and you can probably find them on sale somewhere. From there you can get cross bars and put whatever else you want on there. I recommend the faring to reduce the wind noise.

I need to get some pics in action soon!

Lookin' good DT !

Looks awesome. Hard to believe you are getting that MPG. I didn't get above 20.1 on 3000 miles road trip couple weeks ago. Same specs as yours. Could possibly be my tires since they are little more aggressive but I wouldnt think that much of a difference.

Again, great looking WK2. Glad you removed the two front fascias. More pics and specs (PIAA?) of the aux lights, please!

Here's more pics on the roof rail as requested. The system is not very sturdy until you get a crossbar attached, then everything tightens right up.

@ Jackal01 - Thx I was checking out your thread while I was planning mine. The tires will make a big difference mileage wise. I'll get it in action soon and post up.

The lights are PIAA 510 series, 4 inch.

I had a local shop install them, and I'm pretty happy with it, they are very solid. One thing I didn't stay on them was getting the ATP (All Terrain beam Projection), so I believe I have the driving projection. I'll give it a serious test soon and swap them out if need be (or there's room for more).

I don't think you'd want to go to 6 inch diameter, but if you have a support plate underneath it you may be able to pull it off.

:thumbsup:Again, looks good DT. I like it. Looks like the shop did a decent job on mounting the PIAAs. Keep the mods coming (since I am getting married in a few months, I am in a holding pattern so I need to dream about some of the other sweet WK2s on here) :highfive:

Yakima rack part upgrade

You should call Yakima and have them send you the correct part for the rack. I have the same rack and it sits way closer to the factory rail. This is due to a new part that they will send you for free. If you do a search on the forum I believe someone else listed the correct part number. Your rack will sit a little lower and look way better.

Jeep looks great! I have the same rack on it's way. I just got my Rola cargo basket and waiting for the rack to show up. It's torture, I can't wait to mount it. This rack set up seems to be the lowest profile one I could find and as cesarvillanueva mentioned I have the specific claw on its way from yakima for free.

Thanks for all the great photos!

Thanks much for the tip! I couldn't find the part number via search but a quick call to Yakima and they're in the mail. The part is the "small claw base" and the part number is 8880201.

I'll post a pic when I get them installed and we can compare!

OK thanks again for the tip on the roof rack, got the parts installed and as you can see it fits much better.

And took it biking, although it stayed at the base camp!

Going wheeling soon!
