2011 GC 5.7 HD brakes vs Standard??

I have a 2011 GC 5.7 4x4 with factory trailer tow. In the 5.7 package it states "HD brakes". What is HD about them compared to the standard brakes ?? Thanks

Only real thing I've found is that the rear disks are vented instead of solid (better cooling).

One of these is a turbo diesel.

front rotors are bigger also....on the hd brakes
it why the v6 can wear 17's and the v8 must have 18's

If you look at the parts catalog for the front and rear brakes, they list options for 3 different brake variations. I believe them to be V6/V8/SRT. They show a different caliper and rotor for front/rear V8 vs V6 as well as associated mounting brackets and smaller parts. However the master cylinder and all brake lines appear to be the same throughout all options. Some have already upgraded to the SRT8 brakes on a similar platform and I think it would be possible to upgrade a V6 Laredo to the Hemi brake setup. Given purchase of all the correct parts they should just bolt on. Total cost of the upgrade is around $800 in my estimation. I am debating just replacing the unvented rear brakes with the hemi setup and leaving the smaller vented fronts in place. This would save some cost but might create bias problems.

Larger front rotor ? Thicker maybe. BRY (17" US) uses the same front pads as BR6 (18"). BR1 (18") & BR6 (18"HD ) use the same front rotor.
ROTOR, Brake, Front
52124762AB [BRY]
68035012AB [BR1] Or [BR6], [X84]

PAD KIT, Front Disc Brake
68052369AA [BRY] [BR6]
68052370AA [BR1]

BRY, BR1 are Anti-Lock 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
BR6 is Anti-Lock 4-Wheel Disc Hd Brakes
X84 is a Front Suspension Parts Module

One of these is a turbo diesel.

HD brakes have larger front rotors and a different (longer) caliber bracket. It is the reason OEM 17inch wheels don't clear HD brake calipers.

And you only get this on the tow package model? I wonder if the 2014 V6 with 8 speed is getting the brake rotor increased size.

If the 2014 laredo wheels are 17s, I doubt it. All Limited and Overland V8s have the larger rotor, dunno about V6s.

I found out this weekend that the V8s with tow package is how you get HD brakes. The dealer had two hemi WK2s next to eachother....one w/tow packag, one w/o tow package. Both had different rear rotors

Yeah looks like my mistake, Anti-lock 4-wheel Disc HD Brakes are in the V8 package for Limited and Overland 4WD only. For V6s, 2WD, and Laredo V8s dunno what package, if any, HD brakes are in. HD brakes are not specifically listed in any of the trailer tow groups on WK2Jeeps.com or in Jeeps option descriptions.

There are the three sales codes describing the brakes for the 2011-2013 WK2

- BRY - Standard Anti-Lock Brakes (Front-vented, rear-solid, for 17") 330mm vented rotors front and 330mm solid rear
- BR6 - Heavy Duty Anti-Lock Brakes (Front-vented, rear-vented, for 18") 350mm vented rotors front and 330mm vented rear
- BR1 - European Anti-Lock Brakes (Front-vented, rear-vented, for 18") 350mm vented rotors front and 330mm vented rear

The basic differences is the standard front rotor is 13 inches in diameter and the rear rotor is not vented and ~1/2 inch thick. The HD front rotor is near 14 inches in diameter, the rear is the same diameter as standard but is 1 1/4 inch thick vented. Both rotors fit the rear axle and caliper. Putting a 14 inch front rotor into a 13 inch hole may be an issue, however. Most aftermarket suppliers don't have good fitment data, so if you have HD brakes, make sure you get 14 in front rotors and vented rears. If you have standard, get the 13 inch fronts and solid rears

Front caliper and brake pads are the same for SD(BRY) and HD(BR6) brakes:
Front Caliper (for BRY and BR6):
Right - 68052362AB
Left - 68052363AB

Front Brake Pads (for BRY and BR6):
Set - 68052369AA
**Only the adapters for the calipers and the rotors are different:**

Front Brake Pads (for BR1)
SET - 68052370AA

Front Adapter for Caliper (for BR6 and BR1):
Requires 2 68052372AA part number is the same for both left and right
Front Rotor (for BR6 and BR1):
Requires 2 68035012AB part number is the same for both left and right

Rear Brake Pads for BRY, BR6 and BR1
Set 68052386AA

Rear Caliper Assembly (for BR6 and BR1):
Right - 68052380AA
Left - 68052381AA

Rear Caliper Assembly (for BRY)
Right - 68052376AA
Left - 68052377AA

Rear Adapter Brake Caliper (for BR6 and BR1):
Requires 2 68052374AA Part number the same for both sides

Rotor (for BR6 and BR1):
Requires 2 68035022AB part number the same for both sides

I wouldnt be surprised that the master cylinder is different from the standard brakes to the HD brakes.
