Thank you for exemplifying almost exactly how I feel about metal, and also the english language, lol. I have gone on and on with people about metal, but just like what happened here, it was to no avail.

It bugs me when people say stuff like how it takes no skill and that we all just hit random, heavily distorted notes. As a musician this is especially frustrating because they are directly criticizing my craft.

Another thing I don't understand though, is why people have such a problem with music being about violence, but will readily take their family to see a horror film... Makes no sence.

For me, some of the best bands for lyrical content are hardly violent, Opeth included.

And while I was reading this I was seriously going to link Opeth... Beat me to it.

There are melodies, patterns, and complexities to be realized and appreciated if enough time is spent soaking it all in.
yea, greasy kids stuff.....

Hey, it wasn't to no avail; he changed my mind.
And, while I still hate things like Slayer, I think I'll be giving Opeth a try.

You see, when I think if metal, I think of crap like Slayer, and if I just randomly heard the song you posted, I don't know what I'd call it, but I wouldn't label it "metal."
But this is why labels suck, they just lead to confusion. Down with labels! Down with nouns!
Slayer is crap????

Please sell your jeep, shave you head, cut off all comunication with anyone and then go sand in the corner of you room forever.

You have to be out of your mind saying slayer is crap. Slayer is metal!

I agree to an extent, there's a few songs that I kinda like. But for the most part it just feels like generic rock and roll that I'd hear while I'm on hold with some metal fabrication company or something.

Just one opinion I hold.
Atreyu had one album I liked, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. But other then that I can't stand them

Just defending my fav band ever My wife isnt too jazzed about them either but does enjoy the later stuff.
Meh, it's the same stuff I hear about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.

I don't know why I didn't say them in the OP. I hate them with a passion.

Me too. The only song I can like is Crazy Train, but that's overplayed even today.

I can't believe all of the Jimmy Buffett haters! He's my absolute favorite.

If you want to talk about crappy music... talk about the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, the B-52s, U2, or anyone that has ever played at the Lilith Fair.

I hate fall out boy, my chemical romance, and anything like them. I also hate insanely heavy metal and rap.

I do like Godsmack, Static-X, Seether, Tool, a little bit of The Crystal Method, some Frontline Assembly, and lots of other stuff.

I play bass( not the good but i'm learning), but you have to admit, there are some metal bands that sound horrible.

Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Lady Gaga, Nickelback (even though I don't think anyone actually listens to them anymore), Blink 182, Greenday..

I read this whole thread looking for someone to mention Dave Matthews band so I could argue with them.
