Think Tank 50 Holster arrived today.
I dunno about the "holster" part - I'd look more like Curly (of Larry and Moe fame) than Wyatt (as in "urp"). Sticks out from the hip six inches. Not good for doorways, turnstiles, sitting down, or avoiding looking like a total dork. (Yes, I know it's Earp. Hugh O'Brian wouldn't let me down...).
Slung over the chest looks like one has given birth to a platypus and are carrying it around in a pouch.
However - slung over the shoulder it ain't half bad. Absolutely will hold a
D300 with battery grip, has an all weather cover, places for memory cards and there's enough room in the top for the camera strap to fold in.
Lifetime warranty (which, at my age isn't worth as much as it used to be).
Expandable, so that a 70-200mm lens will fit mounted on the camera without issue.
I think I might be able to get an 18-200mm and have room at the bottom to stash a flash...

Hey man, you do realize that the wireless remote will only work if you're in front of the camera, don't you? I considered one of those, but opted for a wired model instead. But I'll mainly use mine for longer exposures. I guess the wireless is great if you're doing self portraits.

I tried taping a piece of white cardboard on my Konica/Minolta so that it would reflect the remote signal to the sensor from behind. It worked.

Crop this or not?

This is the uncropped version. I like the color on both sides but the bee looks too far off to the left.

This crop looks a little more balanced to my eye but I loses some of the color I like.

If you're lookin' for votes, I'd go with cropping tight (thedirt's cropping appears about right).

Nice photo either way you crop it (or don't).
I assume you got the standard models release from the bee before posting?

I like it uncropped. The big patch of blue on the bottom right balances out the blue behind the bee. Nice shot either way.

I don't think you can crop it and make it better. I do think it might have been better if it had been framed a little more to the left (shift flower and bee to the right). I don't think a crop helps it though. It's not bad the way it is.

I agree. If I had framed the shot better to begin with, I wouldn't have to worry about the crop. I have a bad habit of just shooting, then trying to frame with a crop.
I'm going out and trying some more bee/flower shots while the blosoms are still on the trees and the light's good. see what I come up with.
Hard to get the bees to cooperate.

I cropped it to this,

Probably couldn't make a big print, but I think I like it the best.
Here's a different shot,

I think the out of focus bee throws it off.
Here's how I cropped it,

yeah i know but i figured i could trigger it just fine without getting into the frame since itll mostly be for star trails and its only 15 bucks so i figured why not give it a try.

Oh, I'm gonna like this lens, I think.
I got the Tamron 90 2.8 Macro today.
Popped it on the D300 and left all of the settings on "dumb" .
Full sized shot (hand held, all settings on "dummy"), followed by 100% crop and 200% crop.
On manual settings and a tripod this thing might be O.K.

$450, but there's a $90 rebate:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._f_2_8_Di.html
Still need a new tripod and head; and I'd love a 400mm or 500mm prime but THAT'S not gonna happen in this lifetime ; and an SB800 flash might be in the offing, down the road, to help out the SB600 flash I've got now. But the gear's coming together, I'm shooting a bit more, and I'm becoming a believer in Tamron lenses .
The bad news - there NO money for Jeep upgrades this year, it's all gone on photo gear .
But with gas at $4 a gallon, I'll get more mileage out of the cameras than I will the TJ .
I've got three days this weekend; I want to get some macro shots in with this Tamron, and there's a Civil War re-enactment at the Henry Ford that we're planning on attending. The grandkids want to go to a local fair, but I think (considering the escalated level of damage possibilities) that I'll schlep the D70S, not the D300). Normally I shut the house down for the Indy race, but with the grand kids in town I'm very much afraid that A.J. Foyt IV will have to win w/o me cheering on from the living room.
But this Tamron is one sweet lens for the money!
