I was drafted in '66. After two years as a radio op and instructor I decided to take another 4 years until 1972. Certainly not a hero which is an overused term but with the additional 4 I took maybe a couple others did not have to get drafted anyway.
Found myself with an artillery outfit 2x and volunteered to be a Drill SGT just as the all volunteer people were coming in. It was not a great time in the Army with the transition. The Army was determined to make it work and didn't have a clue as to how to go about it. By 1972 I had had it and did not reenlist again
Jeep related however I was in a rollover in one as a passenger in 1967 that just resulted in a service connected disability award for me of 20% and 10% for hearing. I had back troubles from that accident forward. So the back pay from the time I applied in 2010 and the monthly check is funding the purchase of my Jeep for me
Just some advice, if you have medical problems in the service make sure you make copies of your medical records before you get out. Mine were lost~or so they tried to say and I had copies after all these years.
They tried to say I had the originals and they were just copies. Maybe they lost them of purpose is what I was thinking.

One of my best friends aunts works for the VA...

She told us straight up that the **** that gets "lost" It does happen on purpose. She also told us the medical ratings are always lowball'd the first time they do your claim.

I did not know what to think. But after the VA did my claim and gave me 10 percent for tenitis, and ZERO for a torn shoulder that they said was Tendinitis I am not doubting her now.

Yep, I first applied when I realized my back was giving me more trouble on the job after discharge in 1975. That's when I found out there were "no records supporting your claim". Thanks to a Major (doctor) that did my discharge physical I had copies of all of my records to to dispute what the Army said.
They even told me it was illegal for me to have copies. I told them it was also illegal to commit fraud.
I got a service connected letter and 0% at that time.
After many years vets in the local ares told me to reapply and I did in Nov of 2010.

My Military peeps! Many of you know I am apart of a Non-Profit Organization called 4 Wheel to Heal. I have created a Thread documenting everything we have done so far! Check it out and show some support for Wounded Veterans.
