where's my promotion?

Hello,
So I'm currently at my first duty station, Camp Hovey Korea. reached my 6 months January 15, 2014. I still have yet to be pinned with mosquito wings. My ERB and LES are showing me as E2 with a date of rank 20140115. It doesn't mean a whole lot since it's not really a huge deal, but it'd be nice to actually put something on the Velcro. plus i'd like to get rid of the weird looks I'm always getting. I'm doing everything right, team leaders, squad leaders and platoon sergeant are all tracking. They say they are waiting on a DA form 4187 to come down.

I didn't care a whole lot, until it was 2 weeks late. After pestering about it for 6 weeks I'm starting to really wonder. does it normally take this long or do I need to start going higher up?

I was active Army back in early 90's and was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. I'd been there about a year and came up on orders to go back to Germany. I was married and wanted to take my family. I had to talk to the re-enlistment NCO to re-up. About a week later, he came up to me and asked "You were promoted to E-4, weren't you?" and I said "no." It turned out that I was actually promoted about seven months before and nobody told me, or anyone else. Anyhow, turned out that I had to stay at Hood and get it straightened out and I ended up getting almost nine months of back pay for E-3 to E-4. Plus back pay for separate rats and BAQ. And, I ended up getting screwed out of going back to Germany but, at least, I got my promotion.

That's not true at all. We held promotion ceremonies for every rank. In fact, if you pinned yourself prior to the official ceremony we would find ourselves in front of our platoon sergeant or the 1st Sgt to explain ourselves, which usually followed woth them ripping the rank off and some form of punishment.

Ask your coc about it op. Start with your team leader and work your way up. Are you the only private in the unit?

Unless the soldier did something wrong, there is no reason to delay the promotion. If you have asked your COC about it, and were told they are waiting on a 4187 then there are 2 things that come to mind. Either your COC is being lazy or the paper pushers are dragging a$$. I have seen promotions delayed so the unit could do a promotion ceremony for that soldier or several soldiers at once. As nwitjdave said talk to your first line. If they don't do anything tell them you want to go higher. Someone will take the time to address your issue or tell you what is wrong.

^this

Go through your coc (Chain Of Command) or you could never see a rank...
...don't know your issue, I went from an E1 to E6 in 22 months. But, I'm sure different circumstances for you.

thanks for the response guys.

to answer some questions:
No i'm not in any trouble what so ever
I've gone to my team leader multiple times, he's also clearing so I rarely see him.
In the absence of my team leader i've talked to my squad leader, multiple times
My squad leader has talked to my platoon sergeant multiple times
My XO is also well aware.
In addition to my direct COC every other NCO in the platoon knows the situation
I'm the only private up for promotion currently, however talking with others who have been promoted here they said it happened within two weeks
promotions E4 nd below happen within the platoon, anything higher and it happens on Fridays infront of the company at closeout.

I have a feeling its whoever is doing the paperwork. we had a specialist get promoted to corporal and When I listened his date of rank was almost 2 months ago.

Sounds like one of your NCO's needs to take your LES and ERB to S1 and make them do their job.
If you really want to blow their mind, find a fillable da 4187 online and fill it out yourself. Its a personnel action. you don't need a desk jockey to fill it out, just need them to process it. Since your ERB and LES already show your promoted then the form is just pillow talk, to get your memorandum for record. Some units make a big deal out of promotion to E2, some don't. It just depends on the situation.

At first I was gonna growl at 'em to suck it up but as I've 'matured' in my years, I thought first before I posted and did some research.

Results were eye-opening:

1984

E-2 <2yrs = 668.70
E-1 4mos+ = 596.40
E-1 <4mos = 573.60

2014

E-2 <2yrs = 1716.90
E-1 <2yrs = 1,531.50

Hope they pin (pay) him soon and free beers on his tab...

He is getting paid and his LES reflects the higher rank. He just hasn't 'been pinned'

Then I don't see the problem. E-1 and E-2 ...it's not like there's a quantum difference in their duties. Someone still gets to clean the crappers, and if he's already making E-2 pay, then whoo-friggin-hoo...

I disagree. Be proud of your rank, regardless of what it is.
