Marine Corps motor T. you will have the option to be a driver or a mechanic. Really you should see a recruiter and let them put the list of MOS's in front of you. Then youll have plentyy of choices. Ever thought about being a tanker? Given the chance i think i may have picked that instead of infantry not that i dont love the infantry but tanks are pretty ****ing cool

I can barely sit in a deer stand for an entire day, so no not for me, but God Bless the guys that do it for this country.
I know the life of a spec ops sniper, I've seen pretty much every sniper show/documentary on the military/history channel twice. Back in freshman year I was dead set on it, then I found welding and that kinda took being a snipers spot. lol

Second with your statement about being a sniper, thats why you wouldnt succeed. You have a poor misconception about what a sniper does.
First, I am rather intelligent, physically fit, don't do drugs, in good health, I think I qualify.

Second, I know what a sniper does. See above comment.

My brothers friend drives tanks and he says it is pretty bad ***. Yes, I would love to drive a tank and/or blow up mofo's, but if I join I would want to do something where when I come out I leave with a skill that will greatly benefit me in the civilian world.

As of the past few days the service has bee being pushed back. I just got a job installing fire sprinkler systems hanging pipe and such. Its a skill that will help me get into a good welding job after I get more pipe fitting experience, so we'll see.
I mean hell, I still may join anyways just for job security, and all those good benefits I'm enjoying right now due to my dads service. I got a lot on my plate so I'm slowly, but thoroughly going thorough all my options.

Funny, I saw a TV show on SERE school and, guess what, it's nothing like what I experienced in SERE school!

Same goes for any show I've ever seen on basic training, even.

I mean, c'mon dude, you're intelligent, right? Hollywood doesn't portray everything just as it is. And with a lot of military stuff, they simply can't. And the stuff that they can't show you isn't stuff that you can even begin to speculate on, particularly if you aren't even in the military.

Yeah, man. Don't go by what you've seen on TV, even on documentaries. When I went to selection it wasn't anything like what I saw on TV. Trust us on this one.

Its this type of mentality that shows you are sadly mistaken about the military life. No matter how many movies you watched, you are clueless. I was married to a sniper. The mere fact that you think that 'taking someones face off' or blowing up mofo's' is amusing or something you would enjoy is outlandish. You have no idea how killing someone will feel whether you believe they are the bad guy or not. This isnt a game, its real life. Its blood on your hands and not something you can take back. The military as a whole is REAL LIFE and serious business.

Amen sister. My father was a Special Forces Sniper for 10 years. He'll tell funny stories about when he was in and not even tell serious or scary stories and still won't sleep for nights on end because of the nightmare.

How could you be so excited to take someones life.

Your i watch TV and documentaries comment reminded me of this.

The best thing you can do is research different jobs in the military and figure out which one will be best for you. Also find out if you can talk to someone from that MOS to see how the lifestyle is at their unit and what a typical day consist of....

Most importantly stop thinking movies/tv is real... I'm an EOD guy and "The Hurt Locker" is nothing like real EOD.

Could not agree more with this lady. Bro I just left a career in SOF at Ft. Campbell after 10yrs as a SOTIC qual. sniper. Your "I know it because I watched a movie/documentary" attitude will get you one place in the military no matter what branch, face in the mud doing push ups. You need to grow up some first before you consider any job field in a branch. I would not want some know it all kid standing next to me in any job field military or not.

Go to community college, get an AA. This can get you somewhere better then a HS Diploma, if you are still set on a military career path then start thinking about what you are good at. (being a sniper will give you very limited options once you leave, I chose private sector for $)

If you still choose to go in the Army with an AA typically you can go in as an E4. That is great for you as far as pay and rank structure go. Also many special units require you to be a minimum of an E4 in any event.

Dude you are gonna get so many stupid little things to that will annoy you, I will tell you that right now. I cannot even explain the level of stupid things you will end up doing. With your statement above I say stay back till you can figure out for sure what you want.

so im still a baby in the army (been in 9 months) basic was a joke, AIT was a joke. Im a wheeled vehicle mechanic in the army and have yet to touch a vehicle outside of AIT. I literaly learned nothing in AIT the only thing they teach you is how to read the manual and the absolute basics of vehicle. ( this is an engine, this is a piston,....) yea its made for someone who has never opened there hood. i joined because i couldnt afford UTI and figured that i would learn as much in the army as UTI ( WOW was i wrong) its an expierence. im bummed i didnt learn what ive wanted to so far, and havent worked on anything but the jeep. but its straightened me out and giving me a paycheck every month its not for everybody but make sure you look into what you want and dont let the recruiter jerk you around. oh and if you join the army the ASVAB will dictate what jobs you can get best off with atleast a 110 or higher.

I was thinking of UTI when I got out of the Corps, However the reviews I read from people who went there are not much better then what you described. At least in the Army you will get paid to do it. This is a Job the people look for experience. The ASE tests anyone could pass them and still not know crap.

The ASVAB score of 110 is for the GT portion of it that is the main score that always gets looked at.

If your a good welder..please..oh please, do not waste your time in the military. Plenty of jobs in Ohio, Alaska, and elsewhere that pay GREAT for good welders.

Just my 2 cents. If i had that skill, I wouldn't be in afghan right now.

You don't think it is worthwhile to serve?

Its good to know that using your time as a military welder (like a SeaBee) and building schools, housing, bridges etc AND defending your country while serving is a WASTE OF TIME.
