Had to put that disclaimer in. didn't ya. Most non Navy wouldn't understand it anyway.

Hard to advance to E-7 with all shore?

Don't I know it, I got here and they sent me to a division with all E-6s. Its hard to get even an mp when all the old salts have them locked up. "We are going to give the good eval to this POS because he has more time in and hasn't made chief yet, but keep up your good work" (of doing his work) That is why I am only getting one eval from shore duty. The detailer tried giving me the Vinson, I would rather be junk kicked than be in the drydock again.

You were on the Essex, it's difficult to find anybody that knows what an Essex is or was

. Since I was a "Snipe" I was aboard for almost 4 years until I got board and went for UDT and had to extend. Volunteered for Riverine School since I was brought up on boats here in CT. I'm still working with the Navy on nuke ships (subs and carriers) in the reactor spaces. It's fun to be aboard these ships and be with the kids that run them now. I do contract work on the 88s & boomers and called occasionally for issues on the Seawolfs and new Virginia class subs. Once in a while I'm called to an MSC oiler somewhere in the world

A sailor for ever I guess.

Boy, that's the truth. Did 6 months in chester PA at Sunship yards, worst 6 mos of my life.
