1999 TJ, considerably cheaper, so I could save money for future upgrades. However, it has changed hands 3 times, although the owner says it's in perfect mechanical condition.

2001 Sahara, that is by far the nicest and safest bet, (owner is a real Jeeper and installed the lift kit and everything himself and is very knowledgeable of all the equipment on the jeep). It also comes with bikini top, soft top, hard top and full hard doors. Also the most expensive. The only thing that I worry about this one is that it's so nice I'll be hesitant to "abuse" it

Crawlings, 4" with 35's probably wasn't wheeled. it's a mall crawler. i'm leaning the same way to the 99 with the tube steps.

4.5" is 33's is built to go offroad.

I can guarantee you the 1999 doesn't have a D44 in the back. the 2000 might, and the 2001 probably does. That should be the biggest selling point for you. Here is what the rear dana 44 axle cover looks like:



The most noticeable characteristic of it is the metal drain / fill plug. The crappy Dana 35 has a rubber drain / fill plug.

Also, if the 2001 has a factory soft top still, it will be the quietest. 01 is the first year they use the 4 ply sailcloth top. Very thick and very quiet. You'll like it.

I am now less than 2 years from my comission from USNA, and just recently had my precomissioning exam, where they informed me that I am .4 inches from having to go restricted line.

If I were to go restricted, what kind of insight do you guys offer for the officer side, if any?

I am hoping to go USMC ground as long as they don't deem me too tall, but if that doesn't work out, maybe Construction Battalion?? Any thoughts???

I will definitely see if that 2001 has the D44 rear axle or not. What about the Rancho shocks that are on it? Are those any count? I've heard good things about Skyjacker and RE, but nothing about Rancho.

Grewe, he does have the factory soft top with that 2001. Wasn't that also the year that they put the better headers on the engine? That's a definite bonus with all the manifold cracking I hear about.

it depends on the model of shock. i've heard the adj. (9000's?) are real nice.

and i've finally got my hull number...which is funny. a good buddy of mine just left here for the JPJ (DDG-53)

What kind of Ranchos are they? There are lots of mixed feelings about any shocks on the market... I know my OMEs are amazing. New shocks definitely won't be too expensive on an upgrade.

Yep, they started the 2 piece manifold in 2000. And thank God they did. My 99 I used to have cracked 2 Borla headers. First one almost as soon as I bought it, second one 6 months later.
