I was in and out of Vung Tau about the time the area commander started going after the local VC R&R'ing in Vung Tau and they started attacking the base. It wasn't long after that he decided to leave them be and the attacks stopped. Heh, Vung Tau AB had an uneasy truce with the VC forever after that.

I do remember one secret but still widely-known Vung Tao "R&R" location downtown... the "Bowling Alley"... but there were no bowling balls or bowling lanes.

Platoon Commander of the lead rifle platoon in the Marine Corps:
1st Platoon of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, in combat in Vietnam.

This was after standing on the yellow feet at MCRD San Diego, going through the Enlisted Commissioning Program, and then being trained at The Basic School by a little known first lieutenant by the name of Oliver North. :-)

14 yrs on Governors Island (NYC) but most of that was underway hauling back Haitians and Cubans.
11 months in Rochester NY
and now 11 yrs in the Norfolk / Portsmouth VA area.
5 months as a retired disabled vet but I want back in this relaxation is KILLING me!

lets see, as a kid my dad was army i was at
Ft. Bliss, Ft Eustis, Camp Henery ( korea )

Me I started at
Ft. Sill, Ft. Bliss, and currently with the 10th mountian div. Ft. Drum

Next stations, Ft. Eustis, for AIT and then off to Ft. Lewis

Deployed currently in Iraq.

Was just curious, I just retired last year. Spent many a day in the Windward Pass and Straits of Fl hunting Haitians and Cubans. Enjoy your retirement, you earned it!
