Gitmo

Has anyone been to Gitmo lately? Or even the past 5 or 6 years? On the Leeward side, is this plane still there and painted this way?

Yes I have been there 2009-10. I think I remember seeing that plane there. Can't remember exact paint scheme but I believe that was it. I have a couple troops that work for me who is there now I can certai ly inquire about it if you would like.

My platoon painted it from a dismal and faded white to that back in 2004. Hence the 7 as we were 7th platoon.

If you could, that would be awesome. Thanks

Still there. I was there over the summer. That's not how it's painted now. I will see if I can get a picture of it for you.

That's what we all thought. That's too bad. I'm sure some navy brass got pissed off that it was painted to read Marines on the side so he ordered some restriction sailors to repaint it.

I was there in '96-'97. Dont remember it the plane. Looks like it was at the ferry landing?

That last picture looks like a tower was put infront of RSC

The plane was by the ferry landing on the leewars side and the tower is a mop by the main gate on the windward side. I got to watch a few repats from there. Consists of us handing over Cubans who hopped the fence, approached the fence, or swam in seeking asylum. The Cubans would take them and beat the **** out of them minutes after they got back on the Cuban side. Also, the Cubans play mind games. They would send females in to their towers and give bj's and do other acts with soldiers, meanwhile you are there by yourself, lol.

That doesnt look like the NorthEast gat as I remember it, but you know how memories fade. I too watched many repats there. On more than one occasion they'd get up into the cattle chute, and a single shot was heard.

We'd get watch through the big eyes into Camanera (sp?) and watch hookers walk around. A few times the mops at the water gate would report the Cubans would turn off the lights, disappear a few minutes, then come back up. Both men.....

Yes, it is the North East gate, thanks for remembering the name. The gate is located on the other side of the building that used to be the marine barracks. Now (back in 04) it serves as the meeting location for the north east gate meetings when they happen on the us side every other month. Just to the right on the Cuban side (I forget the names) was the dollar bar up on a hill. I think its name was that. Been a few years.
