Just out of curiosity where do the Airforce guys work on their jeep I know they have those garages that everyone parks in but what if you did something like a axle swap or wielding things

I can't speak for Air Force Hobby Shops, but the one on Camp Pendleton, CA had bays, tools, and supplies to do anything from an oil change or brake job to a complete rebuild. I once tore out the damaged D44 from my '73 CJ-5 and had it fixed (by another shop); another time I completely rebuilt the 304 V8 in that Jeep.

Even the one at MCAS El Toro was big enough to let me add a 4" lift on my '87 Toyota, including welding/cutting supplies.

Yep, the hobby shop is the best bet. You can rent a stall for a day, and in some cases, for the night. People here do everything from an Oil Change to Engine Swaps. They have all sorts of tools you can use even.

I do everything in my home garage for the most part, i have used the autohobby shop in the past. I also have access to a shop that sponsos my roadrace car.

I have used the autohobby shops in the past. The Nellis AFB one sucks, Kadina AB shop is nice, Camp Foster is nice and Pendleton is great.

If you have a home garage, I can understand using it. The Auto Hobbys are geared toward the guys in the barracks or in base housing who don't have a garage or who can't use it that way.

A good friend and I *may* have rebuilt three cars in his one-car garage at MCAS Tustin in the early 90s. We had to paint the walls and floor to cover the grease spots the day before he moved out...but it was so much more convenient than working on them at Auto Hobby on El Toro, and for some archaic reason they wouldn't have let us have beer in the Auto Hobby anyway. Savages.

Yeah I'm going to assume that I'm not going to get a garage to work in but I'm excited that I could actually do real work

Every Army post I've been on has had pretty good Auto Hobby shops. I assume AF facilities would be as good or better. I know the USAFA has a pretty good shop:

Used to live nearby and used their facilities more than Ft Carson's.

Don't get to used too the Auto Hobby shop. It'll be gone soon enough. Ours here at FE Warren AFB will be closed at the end of Feb.

Do you have anything saying all will be gone. They just put in new lifts here, and are always busy, so I don't see them getting rid of it.
