You'll have fun. You just won't realize it until afterwards... maybe a few years later.

You will, you will realize that boot camp is way easier than you think it is going to be and you will have fun. Its all about doing what you are told and thinking under "pressure" which really isn't anything.

Yes, your right. Thats becasue Ft Benning is an Army Base. So is Ft Carlson, Ft Dix, Ft Drum, Ft Irwin, Ft Polk and Ft Riley.
Ross, are you sure you have a military background?
|
Your day couldn't have been much slower than mine was, thanks for something to do. I do have an Army back ground. Sorry if we upset others.
I have only been out a few years and back than call an Army Post a base was like calling a Jeep a car. I have only been out a few years and back than call an Army Post a base was like calling a Jeep a car. I still work for the DOD as an Army Civilian.
OP if you go to a board and they ask the how many bases the Army has the correct answer is four on each baseball field and if they as you how many trucks, the answer is one.

Okay, this is going to make me look like a *****...but I have to get it off my chest.
I've been having recurring thoughts about doing this...regretting and what not. I've lost all motivation when it comes to working out...i had worked out every day in november and I guess after the last drill I kinda just lost it all. I don't know how to tackle this or approach my recruiter about. I don't want out, if that's the drift yall are getting. I know since I signed the contract I made an agreement, this is simply how I'm feeling. I guess I'll see how things go at drill this weekend, i'm sure we'll have another PT test that I'll **** up on since I haven't been working out.
Flame suit on, waiting for all the "you're a wuss, suck it up *****" comments.

That's just how it goes when you are young. If you chose to go this route, expect for the reality to hit you hard when the three months of chill out time is running out. No matter how you feel, it's too late to do anything but give it 110% and gain some respect and money.

the other half is in three years, halfway thru your contract. I am in SC ARNG, and a good friend of mine just got a permanent active duty job at Leonard Wood, working on the ranges, so he will probably be running the ranges you go through. he has to leave here to go out there this weekend.
Good Luck!!

I didnt have time to go through all the extra BS within the entire 4 pages but guessing that you said recruiter Im assuming that you are in the DEP program. You can actually walk away form your contract up until you swear in at bootcamp. I am active duty Marine Corps. I love it but unless you are 100% dedicated it only gets worse. Everyday is harder than the rest. Its not shame in not doing it just decide before you leave because you will probably regret it if your not COMPLETELY dedicated. Also I think you said MP, mp's are pretty much short handed everywhere you go and the DOD is outsourcing them because they are all getting sent to Afganistan. If you dont believe me go to any base and see who is standing at the gate.

I think because I joined the national guard once I signed that first contract I'm in no matter what since I'm already getting paid to attend drills. That's my understanding of it at least. Thanks for your advice.

i went through the same thing your going through right now. as soon as i enlisted i lost all motive to work out and could care less. i was nervous as hell when i shipped from MEPS. during reception i kept second guessing why i did it. but let me tell you, i met some of the best people and had some of the most fun i think i ever had. and that feeling you get when you stand out before your family at graduation cant even be described, you will feel so proud of yourself.
my AIT was alot different then what yours is gonna be like cause im a 91B. so i had alot of freedom compared to my friends who went to leanord wood for 31B. but all in all it will be the best feeling in the world after you look back and see what you have accomplished. Goodluck man! dont back out now

no you can back out. i know a few people who have and they gave me the choice right before i shipped out. even at reception they gave us the option to back out and they would have us home that night or the next day.

Keep your fingers crossed for the 787 MP BN, 795 has very crappy old style barracks.
Live it up when you get to the 43rd (reception bn), because the freedom ends after those 4/5 days!
Also, the entire time i was at FLW, i was never offered to back out, nor do you swear back in. Under 180 days, you can get an "administrative" discharge. Basically, it cancels your contract like you were never in. After that, its a lot more difficult and rigid.
Enjoy!

Don't let the workout thing hit ya hard bro. Before I left to Basic I was only working out and running 3x to 4x a week. I did sports to help me stay in shape. I played a lot of hockey and football, which both require good exercise on the ice and field. I did a lot of quick sprints up and down hills, road the bike atleast 20miles a day. Don't be so worrried about building muscle before you go. Your gonna lose it the first couple weeks. They well build you back up again no worries. The same thing with running, they well help. Try breathing in threw the noise and out the mouth and run at a very slow pace for like 3 or 4 miles a day. Slowly has your breathing gets easier up the pace some. try doing p90x, crossfit, and join either of them with running and you well be fine.

Man, Relax and just get ready for it. OSUT is a joke. I was in Ft. Leonard wood for 6 months. Basic/AIT is a joke and I'm not just saying that. Its a strain mentally and physically for about the first 6 weeks then its done. After that you just settle in for the routine and enjoy some training. I was active for good while, did my time over seas and really had a good experience. I signed a short reserve contract after I came off active duty and my views on NG/AR are not very good but thats a different conversation.
The thing about the Army is this, you have to want it. I say that because if you don't want it then you can skate right through training and initial enlistment and gain nothing from it. There are so many Sh*t bags in the Army now that its dragging the rest of the populous down. You have an opportunity to make your self a better person, learn a lot of great things, and serve your country. Take that opportunity, seize it, and make your self a better person.
PS: I feel that all healthy young males should have to do 2 years on active duty.
