camp McCool BAF AFG

As Navy in that camp we never lost or injured any one in any of the raids that happened. I guess the Marines go looking for trouble outside the camp wall instead of defending from within.

Good on them though and good job not getting anyone killed. The best offence in a fortified camp is a good defense. Enough from me, here is the story.

At approximately 2345Z, the VMAQ-2 guard LCPL S heard and witnessed what he believed was someone attempting to crawl through the concertina wire on top of HESCO barriers that surrounded their compound. He went directly to the Sgt of the guard and alerted him.
Gunny W had just gotten off duty and was on his way to the head. Upon hearing this news, the Gunny took LCPL S and PFC C and the three made their way around the infiltrators flank in an attempt to get a better look. Keep in mind that the Q-2 Marines have limited ammo. Also of note, there are two guard towers with full-time Army security personnel in them with crew served weapons on either side of the infiltration point. There is also an ISR camera mounted on a large pole that is supposed to be monitored 24/7. When the Q-2 team made their way to the insurgents flank, they saw the individual squatted next to a HESCO. As they tried to make a positive ID before engaging, the insurgent stood, threw a grenade and fragged both Gunny W and LCPL S. At the same time, PFC C engages and kills the insurgent while another drops over the fence. The guard towers begin firing at the insurgents coming over the wire. A VMAQ-2 Capt emerges from the MWR beehut and moves to the scene and begins directing fire and calling for support from the ADOC. The insurgents destroy the gate with RPG fire. VMAQ-2 Marines move to the scene and begin dragging the wounded back to a nearby bunker. Another insurgent drops over the fence and fires (3) RPG rounds into the compound before the guard towers engage and kill him. The VMAQ-2 Marines begin triage on the Gunny as the shrapnel had passed through his abdomen. More grenades come over the fence and explode near the bunker and within 15 ft of the VMAQ-2 SgtMaj who is trying to get Marines into a nearby tower for supporting fire. Apache gunships show up on the scene and engage insurgents outside the wire in conjunction with Spec Ops teams. They eventually kill approx 21 more insurgents. A fourth jumps the fence and is killed immediately by spec ops teams. All were wearing explosive vests. The Gunny and LCPL are stable and in Germany now. Their wounds were extensive but the hospital at Bagram was able to stabilize them before getting them to Landstuhl. The VMAQ-2 Marines have spent the day fortifying positions, building shooting platforms and bolstering their QRF. They have scopes for their M-16's and NVD's for all their guards now. It sounds like the Gunny, LCPL and PFC really
saved the day here. LtCol C passes that the Marines are very motivated
and ready for the next go around. They are expecting more issues overnight.
