Wiring electric boat winch through 7 prong connector
Wondering about wiring a boat trailer we(i)nch up to the 7 prong plug on the back of my KK. I'm not too keen on trying to run wires from the battery back to the back of the truck unless necessary. I was hoping to rig a 7 prong plug up that I could plug in when setting the boat in and pulling it out of the water only. Has anyone tried this? Not sure what kind of winch I am getting yet, but the boat is a smaller 16 foot aluminum flat bottom. How would you wire it and would it work without blowing fuses or melting wires?

You'd probably need to run heavier gauge wire from the battery and make a quick connect. Its just a 16ft aluminum boat whats wrong with a hand crank?

Its spelled 'winch' btw:)

Ok, corrected!
It's a full bass boat and is too heavy for littl' ol' me to winch up with the crank. So, need the power.

Ahh gotcha. I was thinking back to when i was a kid, we had a simple 14 aluminum with a small outboard. I thought I remember it being fairly easy to pull on to the trailer.
I'd google around I'm sure you'll find a solution. Good luck!

You can run a small winch from the hot brake controller wire.

There is also an auxiliary wire in there. Look on hoppe or someplace that makes the plug. There'll be a diagram there telling what the pins in the socket are for.

The time now is 12:37 PM.
