Where to find 4.10 gears

I am having a hard time finding some new gears.

It seems like JBA has the rear but not the front?

Also I was told to get a kit so that it comes with a bunch of other things to fully replace it.

Where is a good place to buy them?

Ted15 07-06-2013 04:38 AM

The front is the same as a JK has.

Ted15 07-06-2013 04:57 AM

If you've never done a ring and pinion before, it's probably better to have someone else do it or have them show you how. There are special tools needed and it can be a little tricky. Definatly not plug and play.
The Truetracs are AWESOME. I can't wait to try them out off road. They aren't lockers but they are very good limited slips. With the design of our traction control system, they should compliment it very well.
If the link works, this is a video of how it operates.

shawnicles 07-06-2013 09:20 AM

Yeah I wasn't planning on doing it myself.

What websites did you buy yours from?

Ted15 07-06-2013 11:52 AM

I took it to the 4WD hardware store in Columbiana Ohio had them do it. Bought the parts there as well. Not sure but they may not have set the pinion properly, still trying to confirm the whining noise. It could be possible that the tires are turning at different rpm's due to uneven wear and inflation heights.

Find a good tranny shop and get them to order one.
they are hard to find online in Canada, and duty from the US will be a killer.
When I had mine done back in March, there supplier only had 2, and both were in Calgary.
And make sure they order for a D30a/super 30,not the standard D30.

Gyro

Reverse cut, high pinion. Like the JK, same parts.

Even though I live in Calgary I can still buy in the states. I just got back from montana where I picked up a bunch of stuff for my car and my hypertech programmer and saved a bundle on my car insurance! Eerrrrr I mean duty.

So that's not a big deal. Any sites that you know about would be great, I would rather order it online than at a shop. And get someone to install it.

What are the extra bushings and stuff one of my friends were talking about ? It had a name and said you migjt as well replace it while the whole thing was open.

You need a master rebuild kit for each axle, ring and pinions and whatever lockers/limited slips that you want. Some decent conventional (Dino) oil. It would also be a good time to replace that stamped cover on the rear. If you get one with a drain plug you won't have to remove the cover every time you change the oil.
The master rebuild kit comes with bearings and shims for the installation. What do you want to do? Just gears?

shawnicles 07-06-2013 07:05 PM

That's what I couldn't think of the master rebuild kit. Thanks for that.

I want to do the gears and add some limited slips diffs in. I dont really want full lockers yet.

I've heard great things about the trutracs in the KK and having them now I believe them. I haven't tested them off road other than some old township roads around loudenville, and pulling my camper on soft terrain. They are impressive. My original plan was to put a Detroit locker in the rear but the shop talked me out of it because of the camper.

shawnicles 07-08-2013 12:00 PM

Hey Ted, could you check your invoices maybe and get some part #'s for me? I'm having a hard time finding someone to supply these.

I have an old quote;

Hope that helps. Keep in mind that most shops think the KJ and the KK are the same, not so. The inside of the KK front differential is the same as the JK. 4WD Hardware calls the KK a KJ. They just don't even pay any attention the liberty, very few shops do yet you can get a crapload of stuff for a Suzuki Grand Vitra. I just done understand.

Sorry, I forgot to decode the quote. Add $350 per axle for labor. 8 hrs each. The limited slips are Detroit trutracs.
