What am I leaking?!?

Just noticed this as I parked my car today. I noticed a small puddle under my car yesterday, but it never dripped as I was actually moving so I wasn't worried. But when I got out after parking today and I saw this trail, I'm beginning to wonder what it is and it seems like I've definitely got a problem of some kind.

No engine lights or dash lights of any kind. No strange noises. Seems to be running perfect, expect for the evidence in the pictures. My KK is just shy of 10,000 miles so quite little time on the engine.

Any ideas what this is? Should I be concerned? Interestingly, the trail of drips only started when I threw it into reverse (you can see the drops track my line as I was backing up). Is this transmission fluid? Also of note, whatever the fluid is, it seems to evaporate and isn't staining the concrete as 30 minutes later when I went back down to the car the drips were barley visible, save the small puddle underneath the Jeep.

Your help is much appreciated!

I see a dark spot on your front driveshaft so it could be trans or transfer case related, what color are the drops? Brown or red? Brown is oil obviously lol, red is trans or transfercase. Look under it for any wet spots on any of the pans.. Hope this helps you

Not sure what color it is. I'm very slightly color blind so it could be brown, could be red, could be another dark color -- not too sure. Wouldn't oil stain the concrete though and not evaporate like I mentioned? Would transfer case fluid stain or not stain?

Also, any idea why it would start leaking only when I put it into reverse? I assume while it's important I get it fixed, it's not a critical problem since I haven't seen a light on the dash?

Put a piece of white paper where it drips and that will tell you the color

My guess is that it is condensation from the Air Conditioning system. If it were any type of oils it would not evaporate and it would stain.

Any idea what would be wrong with the air conditioning system that would cause the excessive condensation then? It just started like this and I've had the car almost 2 years so it's definitely not normal. Also, how come it dripped like that only when I put it into reverse?

I agree with cheroekekids58.... there is a spot on the driveshaft, check the transfer case.

I'm with the others thinking it is condensation, possibly puddling up and dripping off the top of something. If it were oil of any kind it would stay and not evaporate. Unless someone is cleaning up behind you. The dripping in reverse could be unrelated to the puddle. Todays vehicle's have a lot of moisture that come out the tailpipe when first started. That would be my guess for the drips while backing up.

But, next time you see it, touch it, smell it, and that will really be your best indicator as to where to start looking. If its just water, don't worry about it.

Thanks. Yeah, but it wasn't from backing up after I just got into the car. I just got back from somewhere and was backing in to my parking space and it hadn't dripped anywhere else in the garage except when I went to backup. That's what I found odd.

Don't know that I'll take your advice about touching it though. Isn't there a 50/50 chance it could be piping hot?

When it hits the ground it probably wont be hot enough to hurt you, especially in such a small amount
