Super vs Turbo vs Alternative. Which would be better for max HP/TQ for a 2008 Liberty

So I have a 2008 Liberty and have this idea to either Turbocharge or Supercharge it. I go camping in the Rocky Mountains and haul and tow a lot up to my camping site. My Liberty is "Trail Rated" and have the "Tow-Haul" package and must climb up to 10,000+ ft. Thank you for the advice and if you have any other suggestions they would be appreciated.

with the money it cost to get a good turbo kit you could just buy a old dually if you tow that much

Being a VW owner with a turbo'd motor I can say that a turbo will give you a lot of torque in the mid to high rpm's and will help at high altitudes (thats what they were originally invented for). This also depends on the turbo you go with and how it is tuned because a smaller turbo will spool faster than a larger turbo. I do not know much about supercharging but you gotta keep in mind that supercharging takes power to make power. Personally, like the post above says, I wouldn't waste the money on a turbo/supercharger on that liberty motor. You would be better off buying another vehicle for cheap that can handle your towing needs.

Or buy the CRD liberty and put a bigger fuel pump, injectors and turbo w/ tune on it and call it day.

Regear the diffs,the best way.Also when venturing above 10,000' fill up with premium gas.I have gone well over 10,000' more times then I can count(some well over 12,000') and had more then enough power in 4low,4.10's,and 91 octane gas in the tank.

The 3.7 does not like boost,even low boost like 2psi due to the piston ring placement in the pistons for emission's.You will break your psitons under boost unless you get forged pistons made and installed.

I agree. The 3.7 was not made for boost, but kenne belle got some impressive numbers from the 2 valve 3.7. Perhaps they had some issues regarindg engine drivetrain components, because they discontinued it.

yeah it is a known fact that if you boost your engine but dont do any transmission upgrades, and your tranny is auto, it will die relatively soon. ive seen that happen few times and here it happend to the fellow jeep owner http://www.clutchd.com/2009/01/921-h...smission.html/

He got Nitrous xpress nos in that srt8. anything over 500hp, you MUST modify that tranny!

I say "Never cry over spilled milk, and don't wait for it to turn sour." Take out that stock tranny and put in a HD tranny.
HMS, have the automatic transmission upgrade as an option, but I would opted for all tranny upgrade.

Glad to see he has a roll cage in that srt8..... with 900+ hp he should use a trans blanket .

NHRA rules state hp over 600hp requires a trans blanket.

i dunno why upgrade tho, originally i wanted to get the srt 8, but after test driving it i realized it would be a shortcut to heaven. thing is waaay to fast even stock, while it still handles like an suv....

yes true, but with 900 hp that tranny and drivetrain is screaming bloody murder!!! Is that the tranny input shaft?

watched a recent episode of Xtreme 4x4 and they supercharged a JK 4 door. It cost around 4500 for the supercharger plus some misc parts and install. And they got close to the same results from that than a JK with a swapped HEMI.
