Sunroof on KK Limited intermittent-

Just bought a 2008 KK Limited, the sunroof occasionally works and you can usually tell when it might. The switch panel is the red backlit type, if the buttons are lit bright (30% of the time) it has a 75% chance of opening but the switch will go dim and it wont close until the ignition is turned off- then it will close 100% of the time, thank God. When the button is dim nothing will work.
I have a feeling this is the controller but removing headliner is like my auto repair Kryptonite. Anyone else have this issue? Heres a pic:

How's your battery? Use the knob on the left stalk to turn interior lights completely off then try closing it and see if that makes a difference.

Yeah, the battery is brand new and fully charged- not sure if the brightness of the button is an indicator of juice available to operate the sunroof but it sure seems like it.

Have you tried experimenting with the button while driving at decent speeds?

Yes- it doesnt seem to matter, occasionally the button will be semi-bright while driving so Ill hit it, some times I hear a click before it goes dim but it will always go dim.

Don't know the exact answer to your issue - but here's some info from the Factory Service Manual (ignore if not applicable):

08 - Electrical/8N - Power Systems/Power Top/Diagnosis and Testing

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - SUNROOF
Before beginning sunroof diagnostics verify that all other power accessories are in proper operating condition. Refer to Sunroof Diagnostic Chart for possible causes. If not, a common electrical problem may exist. Refer to Wiring Diagrams, in this publication for circuit, splice and component descriptions. Check the condition of the circuit protection (20 amp circuit breaker in the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM)). Inspect all wiring connector pins for proper engagement and continuity. Check for battery voltage at the power sunroof drive motor, refer to Wiring Diagrams, for circuit information. If battery voltage of more than 9 volts is detected at the drive motor, proceed with the following tests (the drive motor will not operate at less than 9 volts).

Before beginning diagnosis for wind noise or water leaks, verify that the problem was not caused by releasing the control switch before the sunroof was fully closed. The sunroof module has a water-management system. If however, the sunroof glass is in a partial closed position, high pressure water may be forced beyond the water management system boundaries and onto the headlining.
