Shudders at red lights-2011 Liberty
Twice now my 2011 Liberty has shuddered to where it felt like I was going to stall out after letting go of the brake at a red light. It never did stall. It doesn't make any noises and the RPM's stay normal. While my foot is on the brake everything is fine and then before I can push the gas it shudders, feels like it's going to stall and then it goes.

The oil was just changed as well as the spark plugs. It only has 37K on it

Any thoughts?

Possibly gas? I know lately in the winter when mine is first running as I drive and sit at lights it will kinda give me that but after a couple minutes and it warms up it is fine.

First things to come to my little mine is dirty air filter, dirty fuel filter, and what spark plugs did you install....plain old style OEM jeep plugs for some of those fancy higher dollar plugs?
The other thought is that if you pull to a stop and push down hard on the brake pedal it kind of sets the brake to hold even after you have taken your foot off of the pedal, are you sure this is not the feeling you are getting as you give it gas. Does it feel as though the brake may still be set?

Maybe have your vacuum lines checked? I think there is a TSB on a flash for the transmission. You may want to look into.

Hill Start Assist?

It continues to hold the brakes for about half second when you hit the gas on an incline. Could cause what feels like a hesitation or a studder

Thanks for all the thoughts. I can strike off the gas. I normally fill up at the same stations and have no issues with my other cars and it only does it after driving for a while so I know it's not just trying to warm up.

The air filter is changed with the oil and is clean (first thing I checked) and I'd think a fuel pump would last longer than 35K.
I did get OEM spark plugs or at least thats what NAPA told me. Do you think I should have shelled out the extra $5 for higher end plugs?

I had the engined fogged about a month ago when the check engine light came on and it was still under warranty but they didn't find any issues with the hoses.

I know its not the brakes being pushed to hard because it did it again this morning while my foot was on the brake. As soon as I let go of the brake and started rolling forward, without touching the gas pedal, it stopped. I tried to simulate it again when I got to work by leaving it in drive in my parking garage and holding the brake for several minutes but it didn't do it.

This has me stumped and feeling like it might die at any time.

I will watch this thread as well as mine started doing this the other day. It a quick stutter and then it catches itself.

How many miles does yours have on it?

swamppro 02-12-2013 11:55 AM

A little over 50,000

Run by your local auto parts store and have them read it for any codes that may be stored. This is a service most parts houses don't charge for.

swamppro 02-12-2013 01:21 PM

Mine is not giving any codes.

It can still have a code without a check engine light being on.

Oh. Cool. I will bring it and get it scanned as I have a front end noise anyway.

Mine has been doing this since it was new. Go figure. 75000ish miles.

I have a 2008 and mine has been doing this as well for a month or so. I brought it to the dealer, they said it could be spark plugs and a number of other things. I am at the point of my Jeep where I just got a lot done to it and was hoping that some of the maintenance would have fixed it but it hasn't

I have:

Changed the Oil
Changed the Spark Plugs
Transmission Flush
Front, Rear and Transfer Case Flush
Serp belt was replaced
All filters were replaced

A lot of that stuff would have nothing to do with it but they said it could possibly be the tranny and to get that serviced so I did cause it was time anyway and it didn't fix it either.

The time now is 09:02 AM.
