Should I update from 09 to a 12 Liberty?

Hey all,

Got a 2009 liberty. only have 22,000 miles on her. It's paid for.
Got the letter from the dealership - they want to put me in a 2012 for about $8000.

unsure of any updates from the 09 to the 12.
Never had any probs with my 09. but warranty is up too now........

same motor & tranny, right?
What do ya think?
Thanks for any input!!!!

Well -

option 1 = keep the '09, save the $8k for mods/updates/repairs

option 2 = get a brand new Jeep under warranty for $8k

either way you almost can't go wrong

Personally, I'd keep the one ya got. Low miles, reliable, paid in full - why fix what ain't broke?

If you really are thinking about this, make sure you get details about what exactly you would be getting.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I am thinking the 2012 wasn't as nice of a package.......I don't want the plastic wheels........
With no problems I am leaning toward keeping what I have.

I just wasn't sure if there were any major upgrades on the tranny or motor......

Thanks

I think most of the "upgrades" were just refreshed interiors and package options. I could be wrong though. I know for sure that the steering wheel was changed from your 09. Now it has the radio controls and a few other buttons. I think it's nicer than the older models, but not 8k nicer lol.

My opinion, since you barely have any mileage on the 09 and no problems I would keep that unless you see something you really like on the 12 and/or want a warranty.

On a side note, my 11 almost has more mileage than your 09 lol.

It's nice not have a car payment, you could also look at getting an extended warranty for your current Jeep too, put upgrades on it or just put the money away for your next vehicle.

When you get knee-deep in a situation, floor it.

+1, because I'm sure they'd rape you on the trade.

Just keep what you have, not really gaining anything but a payment.

Keep it. The only thing you'd be gaining is a much better steering wheel. That's it. Nothing more.

I've gotten those letters before. They're all BS. Throw it in the garbage.

Old thread, but FWIW I had a 2012 for 1 week as a service loaner (van was in the shop). I own a 2009. I like the 2009 better. The steering wheel isn't as fancy, but the new ones are just smooth on the back, no finger moulding. The seat in my 2009 seems more comfortable for me also. The 2012 felt like it was slanted back way too much. Aside from that, they're the same Jeep...and heck your's is just nicely broken in. There's a reason the bloodsuckers want it.

I think the 2009 Liberty had a non-transferable lifetime powertrain warranty. Worth something if you keep it but nothing if you sell it.

Im voting keep the one you have. You never know...you might just get a Jeep with a ton of issues. Warranty or not...Id hate to have to deal with potential issues.

keep the 09. i have an 08 that is paid off and drove a '12 rental for a few days, not worth it to go back to having payments just for the steering wheel and minor changes to some of the knobs and buttons which i would say is just different but not better

Yep, my '09 Liberty has the non-transferable lifetime power train warranty. Just follow the manufacturer's requirements for documented inspections.

For 8K you can put a lot of upgrades in. My '09 didn't come with many bells and whistles. But I did put in Mopar fog lights, side rails, spash guards, and remote start. Had the dealer do all the work since it was still under warranty. Cost was around 1.5K total, parts and labor.

Even with the other upgrades I have been planning (hitch receiver and wiring, speed control) and having the dealer installed them, and adding rear bumper guard, front bumper guard/bull bar, I still don't expect it to be more than 2K or so. But even if it does exceed that it's still only about 1/2 of the 8K you'd be paying for the '12.
