Second Starter Went

I have a 2008 Liberty, and drive it off road on the beach quite a bit. A year ago, the starter went. I had it replaced. A week ago the second starter went, and the mechanic said that the Liberty cannot be run on the beach because the starter is not protected like the Wrangler. What is up with this? The vehicle is trail rated, but you can't run it on a beach because of a starter? This makes no sense to me. Can someone explain?

Manual or auto trans? If you have the manual trans the starter is more opt to go out when playing in sand without that area being washed out right after playing in the sand. Also what kind of starter? OEM or one from a place like autozone?

It is an automatic and both starters were OEM.
